Engine conversion questions.

I am converting my 1043cc polo genesis to gt spec over the christmas period (as you do). I have all the bits (complete GT to break) but still have a few questions:

Are 1043cc driveshafts the same as GT ones or are they uprated?

Will my 4 speed gear change selector unit still work the five speed box or do i need to change it to?

I know the gear linkage needs to be changed for five speed. The driveshafts don't seem to be gt specific, so you should be ok.

Thanks! not changing the driveshafts makes life easyer.
Al change the selector. cant wait to have gt power.

It will go terribly wrong mate!
the gt engine is to big for your car and the drive shafts will snap like twigs.

P.S. I would be happy to take the gt engine off your hands to stick in my erm...erm... :-D

Nope metz! took a long time gettin a Gt at the right price so its mine all mine :evil: Like your p slots by the way ma pal robz has a set he just got polished very bling!

bet theyre not so bling in this weather lol, mine are scruffy!
coming off as soon as madmatt sticks my tyres on the other alloys :-D

his P slots are coming of soon too as the weather is ruining them :cry: so he is on the search for some winter wheels. The fact he has two other sets of wheels in the garage doesnt occur to him! he loves wheels :D

If you want to do the 'full conversion', you could also transfer the rear axel over from the GT, as this has a load sensor onboard which controls brake force distribution. Probabaly more of an optional item though.

so how much is this conversion going to cost u?
Hopefully not all that much as I am doing most of the work myself with the help of some friends (robz - he doesnt know it yet!) The engine can get a good service before it goes in waterpump,plugs,belts etc, but it runs very nice at the moment in its original home, so a dont see any problems.
I will beef up my suspension before christmas and will just keep the rear axle in the shed till I want to change it. My car already has G40 brakes, a multispeed fan and coil conversion so at least thats a few less things to think about. and a can look at robz Gt and alans G40 if a get stuck or forget where bits go!

deffinitly take the rear axle off the gt as it has a built in anti roll bar.

the load sensors are a waste of time on GT's and G40's they do sod all. in theory they need resetting when you lower a car, but who's done that, and if they didnt alter its tension, how many have started to lock up. Its worth changing the axle for the rear antiroll bar though.

when I rebuilt the brakes on my GT I didtched the load proportioning valve and used the smaller wheel cylinders from the cars that arnt fitted with the valve
