Reverse Gear Problem

Post by sylonien »

Hey guys.

Do you get this problem occasionaly? My reverse gear is really difficult to "engage" at times. I push the gear down, left and then when I tried to push up, it won't go in.

KNow what I mean? I usually have to try 3-4 times and release the clutch a couple of times before it'll work again. Quite annoying.

A common issue?

I've had it a number of times, although normally when I get it I find that sufficient force will allow the gear to engage.

I don't know whether it's a common issue or not, but then every car I've ever driven has had some sort of problem engaging reverse...

I've already pushed it as far down as possible. Any further I go would probably make the gear go through the floor !

Well yeah - but I don't use that much force either 'cos it won't work. So I just keep on trying and trying. :(

D'you think theres anything to do with the way I drive or somethin'?

Guys - show your car some compassion.

There's no synchro on reverse (there never is). If it won't go in, put in first and nudge forward a couple of inches, then try again. Applies to any car.

Deek.

I think it is because your car is very new. It may need to wear a bit before it can engage smoothly.

Luckily my petrol sport has always been soo smooth. Ask Scorpio1, he has driven my car and compared to his ex-diesel sport, his gears are really rough and the clutch is very heavy.
