How much?!?!!!

Post by Del_GTi »

Went to petrol station tonight to fill up the GTi, and shocked myself at how much it took - 49.70 litres and that was of BP Ultimate! Damn near collapsed on the forecourt.

Anyways i was sure it could only hold about 45 litres, so checked the manual and right enough 45 litres inclusive of a 7 litre reserve. Now fair enough it was damn low and fuel light had been on for a good while but i was beginning to think it was coming back out underneath(which it wasn't).

So can anyone beat that or even get close?

Well, I filled up with BP unleaded (not ultimate) yesterday, but not right to the nozzle brim - only until it clicked off a second time on the pump, and it cost me £35.80 @ 84.9 pence/litre = 42.17 litres! Triple OUCH  What a bummer. Guess I should have been watching the £ signs on the pump instead of eyeing up the skirt standing at the opposite pump

43 Litres is the most I've had in mine in 1 go, don't like sucking all the sludge out of the tank into the engine TBH

I last filled up with regular BP like morrismen - £30.80 @ 84.9 works out at about 36 litres, and to be fair the petrol light had only been on for about 5 miles. The most I got in the tank must have been closer to 40-44 litres on the way back from Wales last August Bank Holiday, must have driven a good 30 miles on the light, I was kinda getting a bit edgy about running out of fuel  but I haven't got the old receipts to see how much went in, it was a while ago after all!

I never properly fill my tank up unless I need to, always like to save a bit of weight

haha same here Prash !!

Never gone beyond 3/4s of a tank i think, and for me anyway, the more fuel i seem to put in, the quicker it goes.

GOD knows why, maybe cos i see loads of fuel and put me foot down more haha

Hmm - most mine has ever taken is 46 litres, and that was after my old man towed me to the petrol station after running out  I fill my up to the brim, otherwise I'm filling up with petrol every day (I do it once every other day as it is :( ).

I hate spending £300 a month on petrol

It might be that you filled it right up, including the filler hose - i'm sure that'd hold a litre or two??

Now I've got it fixed, i'll do anything between 300 and 360 miles on a tank.. It depends if I rag it or not, and if I'm doing motorway miles, or stop start traffic
