Need a new car...

Post by Redline »

Good people of UK-Polos, I need your advice.

Right now I have a Mk5 1.0E, which I've had for three years. I love it, it's beautiful, but its so very slow. I've been looking to change it for something quicker for a while, but the question is to what, with a budget of about 6-7K.

Ideally I'd want a faster Mk5, however I've found it tough to find 100bhp 16valvers, and I'm not entirely sure that at 20 any insurance company would touch me with a GTi.

So the other option I've found, is a Suzuki Ignis Sport  Can get them new for £6999, 0-60 in about 8.5secs, but no image :?

Any help much appreciated!

Yeah, in low gears it is does pull quite well, especially round town. It's just the lack of mid-range punch, and motorways really are a drag :)

I'll have to look into insurance on a GTi. Been down as main driver on my parents policy for the past year, apparently I've got the equivalent of one years no claims from it. If I did it again through my parents insurance a GTi might just be a realistic proposition :D

1 litre is alright in 1st gear, and changing into 2nd

after that you havent got any flywheel inertia to burn off and it all goes to pieces!

(around town is no real sign unless you have a lawnmower motor - people use so little power for actual movement in the city that anything over a 1400cc is a complete waste of money and petrol - 1000cc is extravagant in some circumstances)

how about a 2nd hand yaris vts (or whatever toyota called it) :D

or a G!

Who's your insurance with?

I ran a couple of quotes on privilege.com, came out at £1800 for me by myself  or £850 in my mam's name :D Don't think thats much more than what I'm paying now on the 1.0.

Still really tempted by an Ignis Sport, just not sure if I could live with the crap image. And the fact it's interior will never be as good as the Polo :)

Personally I think that ignis's are great little cars, and having seen so many of them run in last year's rally gb I'm very impressed with them :) And I'm quite sure the image can be tweaked to your liking with a little bit of effort :D

Yeah, theres a whole load of crazy Suzuki Sport stuff like titanium exhausts, carbon fibre bonnets and stuff.

Just depends on whether I can bring myself to leave the house of Polo :D
