100/80W bulbs...

Post by pete69zx »

Ok, so i just got some cheapies by RING (none of this fancy packaging malarky!) & am gonna slap em in a bit later. Then attempt another video clip (with hopefully better results, as the car handles better now & also will have more light on the road for my bennefit & the camcorders! ).

I know the wiring loom for the lights wont like this, but hey... i did it years ago in a Pug 205GTi & nothing ever went bang (very considerate of my car arnt i this evening, lol).

Gonna get a custom loom made soon anyways by a m8 who sometimes makes new looms for Corrados / Golfs etc... 8)

EDIT: Oh & i also got the GT clocks installed now aswell

Cheers.

ooooooh the VW wires wont be happy. thought they could bare handle 60w, which is why they were 6 volt for so long :D

and dont you dare drive towards me without making triple sure that those sods are properly aligned - had enough of jokers with illegally bright and also badly lined up lights dazzling me at night. hardly a contribution to road safety that.

and beware of your full beams too.

I'd be interested in a loom for my GT, for the right price of course!!

I'm not interested in running 100W bulbs, but the voltage at the lamps is measuring about 10V compared to almost 12 at the battery (with engine running).

I've already bought the wire to do it myself and sourced some relays from maplin, but I know I won't get round to doing it for time!!

I bought some American import HID-look headlight bulbs 2 years ago, fancy packaging a go-go, through a group buy on SEAT Enthusiasts.

They lasted from May last year until March this year before one of them blew. I got these half price at £20, so technically that's £20 of bulb that blew up after a year.

OK, so we don't get much daylight here in Wales so they had a fair bit of use, but 11 months is pretty poor. I've had my standard bulbs since I bought the car and one of them has just gone, not bad for 4 years of use (had the car 5 years, and one year it had the posh bulbs). I'll never buy fancy headlight bulbs again.

I've got standard bulbs in now, with the standard wiring loom and I've cleaned out the headlamps with Fairy liquid. Works fine for blatting down country lanes in the night.

That said, I wouldn't say no to an uprated wiring loom for a reasonable price.

If you're gonna buy uprated (tho standard wattage) headlamp bulbs, go for either Philips VisionPlus or Osram Silverstar. I got my VisionPlus off ebay for 15 quid and they're a definite improvement.

Did the whole headlamp washing thing too, which certainly made them look nicer!! Still need more illumination tho, hence the rewire. Need to dim a couple of the interior LEDs as well!!

if you want more illumination i can sort you out there 8)

i need a bigger alternator now, or maybe the one i have is just tired.

look out for some bulbs called "Power Whites" theyre cheap and fairly good

If you know of any spots which are a perfect fit for the standard mk3 fog aperture, then i'd be interested!!

10 inch spots bolted to my bumper aren't my thing tho!!
