3rd brake light always on dim...

Post by mikegti »

Ok I dont think this is normal, but if someone can check for me?!

I was fitting my new led brake light bulbs from ultraleds.com today (which are spot on btw!)... when I noticed that when the key was turned in the ignition, the high level brake light glowed dimly, just like it's an extra sidelight (but the lights arent on!) might not even tell its on in daylight.

it stays on when the engine's running too, but still works as a brake light as it should.

am I being thick? is this meant to happen and i've just not noticed it before?

You're got a wire crossed somewhere. This is the only reason this would glow.

but how would I have crossed the wires? it glows the same time as the illumination on the main light switch, thats the only other thing thats on. odd!

I don't really see it as a problem, I'm just wondering if i'll get pulled by the police for having 3 sidelights?

i'll post some pics soon.

In Law

You must have all lights working correctly by law. If one is a side light and shouldn't be, then they can give you a ticket for not having operational lights. I think you may even have an earth loop, perhaps something is earthing that shouldn't be? Maybe in the new lights? Anyway, it's worth getting it fixed before you are pulled over and get a fixed penalty notice.
