Any Polo 9N TDI owners

I was going on the motorway this morning and the oil light came on.

My 1.9 TDI is only 8 months/10.5k miles old.

I have checked the oil and it is low but I cant see any leaks.

Has anyone else had any problems?

Do diesel engines drink alot of oil generally. (My first diesel  )

Cheers

From my experiences when engines are new they tend to drink quite a bit of oil for the first few thousand miles then settle down after that.

I had a clio I bought brand new, it used quite a lot of oil initially, then after about 2000 miles it didn't really use any.

They tend to drink a bit for the first ten thousand miles, mine did exactly the same thing, oil light beeped and flashed on when I was cruising on the motorway. Thought me to check my Oil reguarly

Don't worry about it the the PD tdi's are known for it.

Check it more often - every week/month at a minimum - it's the only thing that keeps the moving parts apart!!

Good move - at least you know it's using it slowly rather than a cracked sump

Yep - more when new (during the bedding in process) - less in middle age (when all the tolerances are at their best) - then lots when old and leggy - (in fact I think the chose engine oil over the other stuff you put in the tank - maybe it tastes better  )

Make sure you have the right oil, though. Just pointing out the obvious, but you do say it's your first diesel.

Deek.

don't fill it up over its max!
And I've had the oil lamp turn on 3times since I got it. It's got 70.000kms. It's normal ;)

I have never topped up a car with oil in my 8 years of driving.

Even though I have checked the level every now and again. I just wasnt expecting a newer car to need it.

I wasnt sure which oil to get because my car is on long life services and the oil is different. So I just got a top up bottle from the nearest VW.
