1.2 47kw vs 1.4 55kw

Post by Joy »

Ok, today my Polo is getting her first service. I've done 23000 km (14500 miles) before the service-indicator went on.

Now I have a Polo 1.2 just for today.

Some things that caught my attention:

- Comfortline seats are softer, I do miss some support.
- when you're used to a lowered car with big rims... a stock car feels scary :-) very whooly.
- gears are shorter. Engine makes more rev's.
- a late 2004 car with a lot of rattles in the dash. Also the brakes vibrated and the clutch felt heavy. (has done only 2500 miles) Some people do wreck cars when it's not their own.

The 1.2 engine is :

- a lot more economical.
- makes that funny 3-cylinder noise, can't say I dislike it. On high rev's it has a sniff of a boxer-engine.
- has more torque, so driving around town goes more smoothly.
- doesn't feel much slower than a 1.4

Concluding: Knowing this I think I would not spend the extra money for a 1.4 again.

high revs? how high revs until it sounds like a boxster?

tried a 0-60mph timing yet? should be quicker to 30mph, but as it has 10hp more, then i think to 60mph itll be slightly quicker. shorter gear ratios means quicker off the mark...

Boxster! Sounds like a washing machine on spin!

Not a Boxster (Porsche) but a boxer-engine type :-)

Aaron, 4500 - 6000 rpm flat pedal second gear. Sounds ok. The lower rev's are not that good.

Dxg I can totally second your review.

On the highway it doesn't feel so quick, although I managed to get 105 mph in the 1.2. It does 5700 rpm on topspeed whereas the 1.4 does 5000 rpm and stays stuck on 105 mph.

I'm really looking forward to get my car chiptuned to 89 hp. The topspeed will rise to 115 mph and fuel consumption is said to be a little better. Is say that's a plus plus :-)

Oh, I had to pay 268 euro's for the service.

And the dealer also suprised me with a call... "hello, do you know your front-tires are gone ?" ... HUH !

Damn, I only did 8000 miles with these tires

Unfortunately there is nobody to blame but myself.
