I dunno what the gti got but the 16v did it in 15.9 seconds on the day (but might have been a different run to when he raced the gti) Think the spec of the 16v was this: has a de-restricted airbox and some sort of sports exhaust and possibly a poloace chip. It made something like 116bhp at the club polo rr day in jan and the gti it was up against made the usual 125ish at the same rr day.

Oh and also the 16v has been slammed! 8)

yeah I guess so. Depends on spec. Stuff like aircon/climate control adds alot of weight. also the extra safety features and so on. Cant see the engine or anthing like that being heavier, think the gti engine is aluminium anyway.

mk4/5's arent really my area of expertese, but I guess there is an extra radiator and a compressor and loads of pipework, so must weigh at a guess 20Kg, maybe more...

The reason everyone said that, was because you could spend 6k on a polo gti, then watch the money fall off it after a couple years.

Or you could spend half the price on a 1.4 16v mk4, and still get the same if not more performance.

Only real differnce, is creature comforts, and they look better.

All depends what you want the car for, and whether your only buying it for that "gti" badge.....

Also, you asked for opinions, people gave them.

Dont ask a question if you know you wont like the answer.

People where just trying to suggest other options, and the many of other cars you could spend that 6k on.

Maybe... but when are you gonna race to 120+

Dont get me wrong, mk5 gtis are nice, just not worth all the extra cash IMO.

Your paying an extra 4k or so for climate control, xenons, 200 extra cc's etc.

lol...

Yeh the thread on porka got abit heated. People were really just giving reasons why he shouldnt buy a Polo GTI.

To be honest if I didnt get a mk4 16v I would of got a Mk5 GTI, I had the money at the time but just wasnt aware of them.

Still the mk4 16v's and mk5 GTI's are very similar performance wise. Ive only ever raced my car on the 1/4 mile when it was soaking wet. Got a 16.6 and the GTI's attending were running mid 17's. Like I say it was very wet though.
