Two things really, can anyone tell me the name of or where to buy a socket piece that fits the star shaped nuts on the bbs wheels? I have tried my local car shop and Halfords but had no joy. I want to split the two rims, then rub down the outer rim and get the inner section re-spayed.
So secondly instead of getting the inner spoked part of the wheel powder coated, can anyone recomend a good alloy wheel spray paint? I brought a can of Simoniz crome paint today and done a tester on a primed piece of wood, but was not impressed with the finish. Looked a bit splodgy looking if you know what i mean. Just want to make sure i get the right paint as once its sprayed theres no turning back. hope somebody can help.....many thanks

The star shape shocket key should be in your polo's tool box.tucker wrote:can anyone tell me the name of or where to buy a socket piece that fits the star shaped nuts on the bbs wheels? I have tried my local car shop and Halfords but had no joy.
If you do not have it, then you may buy one from your dealer.
As I know they have about 20 pattens for Polo's.
So you need to bring you car along ,and try them one by one.
Try your local motor factors. It's an M8 torx bit which fits perfectly. Managed to get one yesterday for just over £3.00 with a 14" adaptor to fit a std socket set. Don't let Halfrauds try to sell you one that "almost Fits". I've managed to polish two of my rims this afternoon, wish that I'd done it months ago
My centres only needed a good clean with kitchen cream cleanser and a wax polish once they had been removed from the rim. I used a water based paint remover meaning that the tyres could be left on and made no difference on the finished result
. Probably better off doing it this way in order to leave the laquer intact where the tyre seals on the rim. It's cheaper as well
. The area of the outer rim which is hidden by the centre was masked off to leave the laquer intact to further prevent corrosion in this area and also stops any cr$p falling into the exposed bolt holes. Before reassembly I coated the inner part where the two parts meet with a thin layer of grease, again to prevent the dreaded corrosion. Will try and post phots later
