young drivers and insurance

Post by olop02 »

im 17 and have a 1.2 E polo but i wanna put a few bits on itsuch as induction kit, lowering springs, boost valves, ecoteck valve etc and i wanna get as cheaper insurance as i can (obviously) but i cant find anyone that will insure me if i was to do mods. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

with modding you'll find that most mainstream companies allow 3 mods (at a large extra cost) then they'll refuse to insure you.

adrian flux
greenlight

are two that spring to mind that have done me proud in the past! even www.needtoinsure.co.uk are sometimes quite good.

why those? at the end of the day its a 1.2! personally i wouldnt waste my money. i didnt even bother with an induction, 1.2's aint fast so dont bother spending the money on the engine!

as for insurance, i used CIS in my first year of insurance. mods and 0 no claims with 2 accidents 2400  yes i know, but that was the cheapest out of about 20 companies!!

CIS dont charge for non performance mods, so they are good for slow cars are you dont mod the engine on them!

I don't agree with this. Overall I've found Norwich Union to be quite good, and i haven't had trouble with overseas call centres etc. When i last asked, NU said they wouldnt increase premium for ICE upto 1k, tints, coilovers, aftermarket alloys, but just to make sure i notified them before i got any of it fitted. (I know only the coilovers are performance related, but i guess you know what im getting at)

Another good thing with NU as opposed to Elephant.co.uk is that they insured the new golf1.6 i had as courtesy car for free (despite the golf being worth 3grand more/higher insurance band etc)

Elephant however are charging my sister a tenner a day to insure a courtesy Honda Jazz1.3... even though her policy is fully comp for her Civic Type R :S

Young Drivers 17-24 make up 1% of the worlds drivers,
Yet make up 25% of claims made every year,
made me kinda realise about young drivers and high insurance thing lol probably off subject but i though i would just say

The Ecotek and Power Boost Valves are useless. They do absolutely nothing other than cause leaks in pipes.

hi i'm 27 protected ncb - mines £376 fully comp - even got a refund of £64 when I wrote my GTI off and transfered the insurance to my TDI. One thing I would recommend is the courtesy car - I was without a car for about 3 weeks and had to keeping get lifts off people. I'm with Norwich Union and so far they have been really good and paid the claim quickly and are well cheap. I don't work for them by the way!
