The law says that "it’s illegal to enter a traffic light controlled junction after the lights have turned to amber… …and the Highway Code’s advise is that a driver should not enter any junction unless their exit is clear, except where a right turn is blocked by oncoming traffic."

i live in exactly the same place.my car is the biggest target on road and so am i.(going on stereotypes)everysingle day i drive that road and theve pulled someone.trust me i drive faster than you and they aint pullin me.soon as i spot them its brakes or time to pull over, police will never drive behind me cause i dont give em a chance.see them as a gang.police lie and thats the way it is.and m8 if they were from plumstead station,i suggest you dont bother with court.they lie more.not police bashing cause they are doing their job,but in your situation they could have given you a strong warning!i swear london cameras are set 10 seconds earlier.im sure i saw someone get flashed running a green light.cameras dont lie but they can be set wrong.and as the public how do we know.do you?

Some hilarious replies to this thread and it doesn't suprise me that these people get stick off the police.

Most of the time the police - especially with modified hot hatches - just want to make sure you are correctly insured. Which is fine by me, as people with incorrect, or no insurance at all are the people who make insurance so expensive. Also i'm sure you wouldn't want an uninsured car crashing into you?

Just be polite and don't get mouthy. If you start arguing, they'll just make life harder for you...

Anything the police do, to get illegal cars and reckless drivers off the roads is a good thing as far as I see.

People can sit here and say yeah i shouldn't do this and that but at the end of the day, alot of Police from London are twisted, I just think its funny sometimes the things they do, im not no idiot and if someone else i didn't know snatched my car keys out of my hand i'd be equally as pissed off.

I agree with the stereotypes, because i do feel stereotyped at times. Yes maybe its there job, but how do you explain snatching keys out of your hands? and grabbing a mobile phone? Someone said they write it down in there little pocket books, i'd be very suprised if it actually does, i cant see them writing down that they've snatched some1s car keys, especially in my case anyway, he said he took my keys so i couldn't drive off, but yet the police van was directly behind me anyway and bare in mind i could only reverse to get out in which the van was behind me anyway, plus i'd have had to jump back in the car, seeing as i was standing outside it next to the police officer, there was no reason for him to take my keys.

Until you actually come to London and experience it, you won't understand at all.

Hahaha bstardchild where did you get those pics? I know that road very well :D

Never known anyone thick enough to try running it though, visibility's pretty rubbish and there's always a hell of a lot of cross traffic (i'm surprised to see there's nothing coming in the "down" direction, actually!) .. guy must have been off his face!

must be 15-20 years since that photo was taken from the cars and the nick they're in, yet that sign in the background's still the same, hardly any of the shops have changed, and i'd bet it hasn't been resurfaced since (except for some of that wierd coloured tarmac at the lights and a new pelican crossing further up)

im not sure but it looks like that display is recording some figures that could be speed? (either the "R 05.5" which looks too small, or the "V=30" which is more realistic given the look of the impact ... i think in The Vexing Case Of The Black Clio there'd be a second shot saying "V=00".. the swine!)

Regarding the insurance thing --- given the circumstances i was stopped in, i'm not too bothered any more as someone in my situation there was probably a high risk target for being unlicensed and uninsured ;)

Yeah gotta agree with you about some instances with police I've witnessed.

One time in Angel, this one guy got into an argument with some crazy woman bus driver... she called the police and 2 coppers took him off the bus. Bus this guy didnt do anything cos the bus driver was like on a years worth of pms (cos i got off the bus a minute b4 this happened)
So, this guy is resisting the police who have him on the ground... then they call for back up.... for ONE man! lmao
So like the whole Islington branch comes out in force.... 3 vans of coppers, 2-3 police cars and a dog van LMAO
I swear man... these guys must have been soooo bored.
And at the end of it, you see these pigs laughing and joking as they get back into their vans... what a bloody waste of tax payers money

Also I knew someone who was robbing hookers one time, he thought he was safe from the police. But then they came and got him... and it was like they took it personally... like they were the pimps or something... I bet ya they were paid in some ways to "protect" them.

They have the right and can excersise it whenever they want - accept it
In the PACE (Police and Criminal Evidence Act) They may only stop you if they have a reasonable suspicion, they cannot stop you purely because you are out late.

If they suspect you for something, then it must have been reported, and they must have a registration plate (or part of) reported to them before they can stop you.

I kinda knew there was something like this, wasn't positive on it tho. I got stopped one time goin into a KFC drive thru and my friend was driving behind me in his Clio, they pulled him over an said "where stopping you because you know him." Trust me they come out with the most random things. I've also been told my car was reported as racing thru wandsworth and speeding up a pavement to get away from a Police car last October, i mean if i actually did somethin like that i'd remember for one, and theres no way i'd try and get away from a police car, thats askin for trouble.

Im from south east london and there is alot of crime and illegal drivers on the road, so i guess thats a reason sometimes, but it cant be an excuse for the way the feds go on at times.

I can 100% relate to why everyone thinks they are a waste of time.

My bf was on his way to work, he was in the left hand lane at traffic lights, and another car was in the right hand lane. The traffic lights are on a busy road, and are filter lights for turning right.

The lights go green, so the traffic starts moving, and the driver in the right hand lane decideds he wants to move lanes into the left lane where my bf is, and with out checking his mirrors, or blind spot, and moves over. Its surely not that hard to miss a Black Astra, in the middle of the day in ur mirrior - is it?!

Not wanting the other car to collide with him, my bf applies the breaks and slightly moved over to the left to avoid contact, and took avaisive action, but in doing so he managed to go into the curb and puncture a tyre, and scratch his alloys. possibly put his tracking out.

I know that my bf would have done everything correctly as he is currently training for the ROSPA advanced driving certification.

The other driver looked round to see what the noise was, but simply drove off. even after he becokned him, and flashed his lights at him. my bf took the other cars reg. plate, and called me up and i reported it to the police. I was given a reference number, and later that evening we both went to the police station so he could make an official statement.

All they said is "theres nothing we can do". Urrmmm. yes there is. The other driver has commited THREE offences.
Failing to stop at the scene of an accident,
Failing to report an accident to a police station,
and by owning a motor vehicle and driving it you owe a duty of care to other road users which the other driver has failed to do, and inturn could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention.

Also, the tyre that was punctured, costs £110 EACH which my bf cannot afford to pay, as he is still paying them off, as they were brand new on his car 2 MONTHS ago. He cant claim from his own insurance as he'll loose 3 years no-claims, and his excess is worth £700 so about 6 times worth what the tyre would cost.

We are going down there later to make a complaint that nothing has been done about it.

Also, where i work - in a lingerie shop in a designer outlet place - 2 CHAVS (they were mother & daughter - or that kind of relationship) came into my shop on a late night opening, and stole about £600 worth of our goods.we have them clear as day on CCTV did everything correctly, called centre Security, and then called the police, they said they would be in the next day to take a statement from me, but didnt show up. AND i had to go in early to meet them.

And again today, in the same complex where i work, there has been another theft, but this time from 2 sports shops. But over a grands worth of good were taken. And what are the police doing about it.

Yep, you guessed it SWEET FA!

its amazing some of the brain dead and dangerous sh*t they pull, yeah... you'd think that
a/ supposedly intensive police driver training (once the best in the world) and
b/ all eyes on them when they're out on the street, usually
might make them act a bit more responsefully, or at least travel with their eyes open...

wonder what the law and your insurers would have said, had you thrown out the anchors and sent him into the back of you..... sorry mate, the guy in front swerved across (or whatever)... there was a streaker running between the service niches in the tunnel... etc ) ... not my fault if you didn't leave a safe stopping gap.

like the sound of that PACE thing but i bet it'll melt into nothing silently soon enough under the so-called anti-terror legistlation

Its not like it turned red and i jus speed straight thru, i mean who the hell is gonna go thru a red light with a police car behind them?

Yes ur correct, i pointed out to him that he went thru the red light not me and he said in a cocky tone "Shall I write myself a ticket then?"

Goddamn P****s

Anyway shall i also mention that this is the 6th, yes 6th time i've been pulled over for somethin or other in the last wait for it.........

What you should have done Silva was when he made his 'childish remark' off giving himself a ticket you should have looked at him for a couple of seconds with no expression on your face, and then without saying anything gone to your car and produced a pen and paper. Then without talking you should have written down the time and the number plate of the car as well as where it is you have been stopped and THEN asked politely the name and number of the officer in question.

By law they HAVE to give you this, so if he starts being shirty and not telling you, write down his number on his shoulder and tell him that (A) you are going to report him for not giving his name and (b) you are going to make a full complaint to his superior about his attitude and also his tailgating that caused you to HAVE to go through the amber light as it was unsafe to stop in time due to his bad driving.

Police officers AUTOMATICALLy go on the back foot when you do this, they are allowed 2 'marks' on their name before they are brought before a police board for complaints against them.

It always makes them think twice about issuing ANY ticket, they have to make sure they are TOTALLY in the right b4 they give you one. Sometimes you can be lucky like i have and they wilt straight away and dont issue anything, normally this happens if they have already had complaints against them.

All i can say is what ive said before, police officers are just like you and me, they all make mistakes sometimes and when in a bad mood they will be more inclined to give out tickets to ppl. . u just have to know how to treat them, dont ever be rude to them as you WONT get anywhere fast, always be polite, after all they only think their 'doing their job'

Hope u have some luck with the ticket Silva !
