Post by Chief Mangosuthu Buthelez »

im after some wheels for my mk4 and want to do ZERO mods to the arches for clearance. will 15's go on without any hassle?

ive got my eyes on those Toora platinum 8. i only found out the other day that they do em in 15"

15's with 195 45 tyres (not 50) go on 100% without mods. If you don't drop it on the floor right away it won't rub. [Any wheel/tyre combo will rub if the car is low enough]

Also:

195 40 16 is fine, it's the same effective size.

Remeber the ET btw, really low ET's make the wheel stick out and will make the tyre catch much quicker, even with 15's or 14's as the Germans prefer.

Harry,

You won't regret those tyres - not only are they the right size, they also look much, much better...

iirc the mk4 and mk5 arches are about the same size and i use 195/45/15 bridgestones (slightly narrower than some) and exen at -11 cm i diont rub, ever not even on full lock :D

I think the 1997 and earlier models have slightly narrower arches, don't know why really but I've seen this confirmed a couple of times now.

My car can rub but it's very very rare (like a couple of times a year) and it could be down to the suspension getting softer. Stiff shocks makes for less rubbing.
