Wow, really? Kinda makes sense actually. It always seems like Im in the 1st quarter of the tank for ages compared with the others. Useful!david burton wrote:there's a big difference between the 1st quarter of the tank on the gauge and the 3rd quarter. my first quarter takes over 100 miles to get through, the 3rd one takes about 40 LOL
Any idea why its like this in the first place?

driving styl;e makes a massive difference in the 16v. 70 constantly on the motorway gives 40 no probs, constant acceleration / deceleration around b roads gives about 25 mpg!
a lot of cars have inconsistent gauges - probably to do with where the fuel sender is mounted, and also I think the companies like to do it this way - so everyone goes "wow I have drived 100 miles and it's still on full"
the 8v I drive has the following rate:
full - 0 miles
3/4 tank - 160 miles
1/2 tank - 240 miles
1/4 tank - 320 miles
red - 340 miles
the 16v is similar, just knock about 40 miles off each reading!
