The one on my lupo is on 118k miles.
pretty close to the end though.. need to get it sorted . looking at a helix one, they are pretty cheap.

The line in bold is the correct clutch, yes? One other thing - I will need to get a new clutch cable whilst I'm at it. An OEM VW one will do nicely unless one of you guys tells me its included in the Sachs kit?

regarding the cable, you need an oem one, theres not a cable supplied with the sachs one

I got my clutch cable from ECP, it's a VAG original part.

I changed my clutch on the GTI at 64000. The Sachs kit was €150 off ECP and €240 in labour to fit it. World of a difference. I've put 4000 miles on it now.

I bought a Sachs clutch kit from EPC today £68 and will be getting it fitted on thursday, hopefully they wont go overboard on the time it take to fit. looking at either £70 or £105 :?

Have them just check the release leaver on the transmission whilst the clutch is out, see if its free and easy to move. I think that the whole problem with teh pedal boxes and excessively heavy clutches is down to this release mechanism being too stiff. You should be able to move it easy.

(Just for interest, it will only take them about 30 seconds to check that.)

is the sachs clutch smoother, my clutch is quite stiff like all others and i want something a bit smoother and softer

mine is alot smoother and alot lighter than the standard clutch, and most cars ive driven :D

The clutch wont be any smoother, if anything having a new clutch i think will make it bite harder. you may need to raise the biting point of your existing one if you think it's not smooth enough. but depends on what you mean by smooth.

on my 16v there is a nut at the gearbox end of the clutch cable, you turn it clockwise to raise the bite and anticlockwise the lower the bite (or is it the other way around??) I have it as low as possible as I find it quicker to change gears. im not sure if it is the same on the gti, dont they have a hydraulic clutch?

im picking the car up later so I'll let you know how mine goes.

Had my clutch replaced yesterday, in the end the replacement clutch was a genuine VW item - the one that is effectively a reconditioned clutch with a new plate in it! Naturally a new clutch cable went in as well.

I thought that when I went back to pick up the car, the clutch action would be fairly similar to the old one, just lower down the pedal and a bit less stiff perhaps. How wrong was I! The guy who has done the work for me has done a sterling job :D and the pedal is now silky smooth with no stiffness and no noise, and its a lot lighter!! When I first used it, I thought it wasn't connected up haha!

During the installation, all the cables and moving parts have been lubricated in an effort to keep the pedal action as smooth as possible. Makes a heck of a difference.

Petrified, this is the same on the GTi clutch, I was told about this yesterday 'cos the guy wanted to know if I wanted the bite adjusting :)

I had a look at the old clutch plate before I left, suffice to say it was indeed absolutely knackered, lots of wear and nasty marks and gouges across the surface of the plate :o

End result: I'm well chuffed. I know its not the Sachs clutch that was originally intended, but the job has been carried out so well I don't mind at all. I've never had such a light clutch in my Polo, its a joy!

hey i just had a new clutch and gear box and my car has only done 37k,which i think getting 70 is quality ,as i was 600 quid fro a brand new one. :shock:

Sounds like a good mod. My car is just coming up for 30k so I'll wait a while, though my clutch is pretty stiff in comparison to anything I've ever driven (but still usuable)
