BMC induction kit now on

Post by Si_GTi »

Another member converted!

Had a visit from Prash today who very kindly came over to install a BMC induction kit on my GTi. We had a few minor hiccups along the way but the end result is that the Polo is now equipped with a BMC and I am a very happy owner indeed! :D

The only real stumbling block was that the engine cover has bolted on so tight that we simply couldn't shift it. After a bit of trying and swearing we decided to head up to the local dealership and get them to remove it, as they were the last ones to have taken it off! Credit to Inchcape VW, they had it off in about 2 minutes flat. And then reminded me that my clutch is knackered. Thanks... for.. that (it gets replaced next Saturday).

So basically my old airbox is off, the new BMC is on, and only now do I find out what all the fuss is about. What a fantastic noise!! :D :D :D

At steady town speeds and acceleeration, its perfectly well mannered and normal. As soon as the loud pedal is depressed, then *waaaaaaaarp* away we go at full chat! It simply sounds immense, very addictive haha. The first time I opened up the throttle I couldn't stop grinning

Pics will be posted up shortly - currently have the BMC, custom cold air feed and a pipercross crankcase breather filter fitted thanks to Prash. I think I've learnt enough today to confidently remove the whole lot and swap it back to standard/modify the cold air feed too, bonus 8)

Pics soon!

Nice Si!
just a quick question
would this fit a 1.0 mk5 polo? im pretty sure the Air-intake that leads to the airfilter is the same size.
just bored of my raspy k&n!

Having some issues getting onto the imageshack website in order to host the image at the moment, hence why no pic :?

EDIT: edited to mention, sod imageshack, I've found http://xs.to/ to host the pic:

Its a bit out of focus and the engine needs a good clean but you get the idea. I'll take more pics and do my best to get a video tomorrow!

Ben, I don't see why a BMC wouldn't fit your 1.0-litre to be honest, it comes with enough reducers and bits and pieces to adapt to any car. However, I think there is a slightly different BMC kit for applications under a certain engine size, so best to do a bit of research before buying

Cheers :)

May I know did you connect crankcase breather hose back to the
intake hose?

Haha yes it looks a bit like that doesn't it! The breather hose has got a pipercross filter on it and is tucked away (a cable tie is keeping things together) at the back of the engine bay to stop it from moving about too much.

Hope that clears things up!

I think its something to do with venting Oily gases straight into the air, and tat being illigal and making the car smell of oil
