Any Advice??
I've just bought a 2000 Polo Gti with 45k on the clock... Since reading these forums I've learnt the Polo may not be as bulletproof as I thought it was so I've got a couple of questions and any advice would be appreciated:
1. If the car hasn't had the pedal box recall completed will VW still do it considering the car is now 6 yrs old?
2. The car is going to have a minor service by the dealer before I pick it up ie. Oil change etc... How long should I leave it before I get a major service ie Belts and Tensioners..(Should I just wait till it's done 60k)?
3. Are there any tips you can give me for checking the engine over for signs of wear specific to the Polo Gti?
4. What is the best induction kit/lowering springs for the car?

As far as I know they should do, but by now I would imagine it's been done

My last service was 56k, it was near enough to 60 for me so I got them done with that, your next service will now be due at 55k, so I'd get it done then.

There isn't any that I know of, the engine is pretty much sound on them. The only weak spots are the pedal box and gear box.

Hmmmmmm The BMC Kit does seem to get a lot of praise but it just seems soooo expensive compared to the other induction kits from K&N and Pipercross.... I think I may just get a K&N panel filter for now until I decide which induction kit I'm gonna get plus it seems I need a seperate crank case breather pipe which insnt included in the BMC KIT...Toooo confusing for me.

What you need to consider is how much you can shield each kit from the heat in the engine bay. The Polo's airbox sits directly on top of the inlet manifold and so there is a lot of heat being produced when the engine is running. A good cold air feed only goes some of the way towards compensating for this issue.pootas wrote:Out of K&N, Powertec, Pipercross and Raid which induction kit would you rate. The reason why the BMC induction kit is so popular is that the air filter is encased in a genuine carbon fibre housing to prevent hot air from being drawn in

Most of the kits I've seen Pipercross, Raid, K&N etc have a connector to feed the Crankcase Breather Piper into....Does it make a diffence whether it connects onto this pipe or whether you put a seperate small filter on the breather pipe? Just a thought....

I had my cambelts/tensioners and water pump changed last month and when i looked at the main cambelt it was really badly worn. I heard from a friend at VW that they are known to break early so i got mine done as piece of mind.
I have also just lowered my car on 50mm eibach springs. They are a good ride.
