Right, so got the new wing on. For a genuine wing it was a really poor fit, took ages of battering but all fine now.

Turns out gti wings are completely different. For some reason my old one wasnt one. The differance is the gti one doesnt have the sill bit attached, the normal one does. And as my car is missing the gti sill extension (side skirt to you and me) on one side it needed bits sticking on to make it fit.

Gave up on being secretive. Was originally gonna go with 1983 commercial pearl grey, but after seeing Mitch's lupo I think its a bit light for what I want, so gonna go with good old nimbus grey, which is being used loads lately, but i've yet to have seen a 6n2 in it.

Here's a quick shop how it should look when done: (only darker, its hard to imitate grey!)

No I've never seen a nimbus grey 6n2, should look tip top. Are you going to keep the roof black?

Will keep it black magic for time being but probably spray it gloss black at a later point in time. Mirrors are staying black too, should give it a bit of contrast.

Nimbus grey isn't a metalic, its a very subtle pearlescent, more or less a solid. Like this

Might do the mirrors, but roof defo staying black, just like the look of it!

Been a bit lazy of the late, managed to get the skirts on and thats about it. All needs a little tidying up now, front bumper still not perfect (takes ages to get it right!) the skirts need a tad more work (they were designed for an ibiza after all) the rear panel join lines need rubbing down and the wing needs a little adjustment, oh, and that bloody tailgate keeps coming back to haunt me!

So lots of evening work to be done, then a complete flat back and can start to apply the paint.

Not going nimbus anymore as its only available in 2coat, and cos i wanna spray different panels at different times I'd rather get a solid, so going for old skool pearl grey or poss another old commercial vw grey from the 80's.

Right, so the day is dooming. After spending the last two days looking through colour chips at work i've finally decided on the colour. The paints being mixed tommorrow. All consumables are ready (masking paper, paint strainers etc) and Ive drained both compressors ready.

Got next week off, hopefully by the end of it the car should look a tad different.

Still a few lil odd jobs left before the overall prep. Gotta sand all that aerosol primer off and prime in 2k before i put any paint on (primer absorbs water)

Really looking forward to doing it but still very nervous. Gonna spray the cars main body one day, and the doors, boot, bonnet and bumpers another. That way i can do all the door/boot shuts and up to the inside of the wings at the front.

Shall try getting some in booth pics to show you how i get on.

Good luck mate and look forward to the end results!

Nothing wrong with a paint colour from the 80's, love the 80's!

Okies, so spray day is tommorrow, me and the missus were working our asses off yesterday. Been doing same this morning. Had to do loads to the front bumper (well, the mrs did), finish the skirts off and repair a mior ding on that wing. Oh, the tailgate f*cked up and i had to start over on the handle. Just gotta sort the swage lines under the rear lights and hi-build prime the bumpers this afternoon, then all should be ready for tommorrow.

Yay!

Oh yeah, got me paint. Nobody round here seems to like it. I do so f*ck em!

Keep up the good work. All I can say is that you've put in alot of hardwork which can be seen from the pics.

Can't wait to see it painted. :D
