For a PD engine you MUST use PD-specific oil. it's something to do with the shearing forces on the high pressure pump system.
You can get it from German and Swedish but I got some Millers/Millars oil for £27 not so long ago which is very good, just from a local stockist.
If you have a non-PD engine then I'd say you can use the other stuff.
PD-specific is 5W40 too.

Just by looking at it, The cam cover is wider compared to the older mechanical pump tdi's, and there are no visible fuel injectors. In the polos all tdi's are of the PD variety.. hth

Went to my local VW Dealer.
He said because my 1.4tdi was not high performance as the pd130 i did not need pd oil (VW 505 01) and suggested a different type (VW 505 00).
As i was only topping up about 1 litre i didnt mind too much.
But i am due a full oil change next month should i use PD oil anyway or buy 5 litres of this differnet spec oil.
Thanks

Dont go back to that dealer. I cant believe he told you that. The special oil used in pd diesels is due to the shear loads put onto the cam by the fuel injectors..
The 505 00 spec is for the older type TDis only.. the specs 505 01 and 506 01 (longlife servicing) must be used in the PD engines. It would probably damage the cam and pump injectors.. which aint cheap..

Lol what a dumbass dealer indeed.
In any case use 505.01 oil for PD engines (except if have a longlife engine) ! In long term other oil might damage the nozzles and engine!
Btw - normally inside the hood (I thought) there is a sticker that says it must be 505.01 oil.

Read an article else where that:
505 00 can only be used on older tdis.
505 01 can be used on old and new tdis.
So if i use 505 01 it cannot cause any problems.
Thanks

Castrol Edge 5W-30.
http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productd ... Id=7008962
I have been topping up with the SLX III I was given by the dealership - so the guy at Halfords sold me Edge saying its the one I need, and it replaces SLX II.
I have still got the receipt, but have had the oil for 2/3 weeks. Hopefully they'll take it back or exchange for wipers
Or could I use it. Can someone help please?
