280mm G60 brakes are a popular upgrade

But i think a set up like 256 zimmerman grooved and drilled discs, a decent set of pads, and upgraded braided hoses would do the job perfectly well

for the g60 conversion, what do you all need? callipers, carriers, discs and pads? also is there any upgrade for the rear?

cheers

jj_2388, what size disc's do you have standard?

On the 16v I've got 256mm, so for me to upgrade to g60 280mm all I need is the disc's and carriers. (Oh and of course 15" wheels, 14" are too small)

To upgrade a GTi to 280mm, all you need are:

New 280mm discs (Golf G60 4-Stud),
Caliper Carriers,
New pads if you can afford them,

That's it.

In terms of rear braking, they do so little anyway there isn't much point in upgrading them. Personally I just fitted new standard pads as the originals were worn down.

As for the difference doing it makes, it's all relative I guess. I only fitted standard OEM discs and pads so in terms of actual stopping power there's no real gain. Aftermarket discs and pads should make a bigger difference.

However the real advantage from the 280mm conversion is resistance to brake fade. Across my favourite moors road whereas the 256mm were useless by the end, the 280s are still rock solid.
