There must be someway, because the recon gearboxs will just go again therefore making them pointless

Get stronger bearings put in that are rated for higher loads?

At least do the ones that fail most commonly any way.

Having said that, uprating those might just mean the next thing along will fail. s**t design tbh

I'm to hit 40k on my original box and not a problem with it at all. I'm saving up though :)

i'm on 62k and the diff is making some beautiful noises! i've been thinking of uprated internals but all i have found so far is a dog box gearset and slippy diff. i'm not too keen on the gearset in a daily but would it be worth getting a lsd?

Does changing gearbox oil help prevent wear? If so how do you do it and what stuff do you use?

ive had my car for over a year now and its coming up to 60k, havent noticed any problems with the box but this whole whining noise bothers me, dont cars always make some sort of whining noise when driving? i get it in 1st and 2nd but i assume thats because its a high gear, nothing like the sound you get in reverse though

I had the gearbox oil changed in mine twice in the 50k I owned it, the gearbox still went after I sold it. My understanding is the main weak spot is the 5th gear bearing as its plastic !! and the diff. I'm sure it should be easy enough to source a bearing the same size however made of metal, not sure on the diff though however the box is a really old design so not sure if maybe uprated diffs for the G40 would fit in it.
