How well will the gearbox handle that much more power?

Have you conisdered a supercharger?....You can get decent ones from rotrex...or use a really cheap one off a new mini...they can be got for as little as £200...plenty of space to fit one!

LOL... That doesnt suprise me..

IMHO It would be cheaper and more reliable to simply fit the 1.8T lump from the golf than try and feck around with the 1.6 16V

Totally insane idea, but could you possible turbo/supercharge a 1.0 - they did it with the polo g40 being a 1.3 :P

They supercharge bike engines down to about 650CC...so yes, no reason why you couldnt supercharge a 1 litre polo engine...

I wouldnt want to though...You realistically need a 16V engine to flow that extra air...

On the rotrex website there is a picture of a polo 1.4 16V engine with a super on it...

Its a shame the G-box on the GTI isnt stronger because super/turbo charging is a logical next step up from the standard "vw tuned" engine...

Can't you uprate the gearbox? I'm guessing that would be big bucks. 1.8T is much easier, but its overdone. I'd rather have a tuned N/A or supercharged 1.6

How about an NA VR6 engine?...They are available for not much money...Although all that weight in such a light car wouldnt be fun

Possibly enough power to cause some serious pain though!

You can get the box rebuilt...I think someone had a link to a quafe setup...It was about 6K tho :-s
