Totally insane idea, but could you possible turbo/supercharge a 1.0 - they did it with the polo g40 being a 1.3

They supercharge bike engines down to about 650CC...so yes, no reason why you couldnt supercharge a 1 litre polo engine...

Can't you uprate the gearbox? I'm guessing that would be big bucks. 1.8T is much easier, but its overdone. I'd rather have a tuned N/A or supercharged 1.6

How about an NA VR6 engine?...They are available for not much money...Although all that weight in such a light car wouldnt be fun
