Coolant replacing

Post by dantheram »

Can someone tell me how to replace the coolant in my GTi. I know where the reservoir is but i have no idea how to drain it and replace the coolant.

Cheers,

Dan

Well make sure its cold for a start, dont come home and think i'll do the job as the water will be hot!

Basicly all you should have to do is unplug a pipe from the radiator and let it drain out, then refill with colant and water and bob's your uncle,

Dont take this as Gospile and either read a haynes manual or get a mech to do it.

Bottom radiator pipe, and expansion tank cap off. Itll all drain out. After refilling, you need to ensure you squeeze the radiator pipes with the tank cap off still to eradicate any air bubbles from the fluid.

As ian says, follow the haynes manual for it.

The above ways work fine but if u want 2 be rearly clever u can buy an adapter from snap on that will screw into the expansion bottle were the cap normaly sits then u can plug a hose pipe into it, then with the bottom hose pipe off u can leave it for 20mins or so and it will completley flush the coolant system out (u will be amazed how much s**t comes out)
This is what i do at work (vw dealer)
