So the Ibiza FR prices are up on Seat's site. £13,315 for the 150hp 1.8T or £13,850 for the 130hp 1.9TDI (i.e. also the Fabia vRS engine and the supposedly-available-in-Germany Polo engine option).

So, taking the 130hp diesels:

Skoda = £12k, Seat = £13.5k (for simplicity) == £1.5k increase for same engine per brand step. Can we therefore hope for the 130hp TDi (if it makes it to the UK) in a Polo to be around the £15k mark?

But wait, there's a problem. The forthcoming 160hp TDi Ibiza Cupra. If that's at the £15k mark (ie. assuming the spec/brand jump is £1.5k), will that mean that the diesel Cupra R will be at c. £15k instead? So what, then, for the Polo if it gets the 130TDi -- the same price, or more?

Now the petrols are so much harder to guess...

Do we assume that the selling price of the 1.8T and the 1.6FSi(T) are the same? The production costs for the 1.6FSi should be higher, as it's earlier in its lifecycle.

No Skoda to establish a benchmark from, and no FSi's on the Seat range to step up from. So, it's anyone's guess!

So, in summary. I'll stick my neck out and guess:

Diesels:
If the 130TDi makes it to the Polo, c. £15k -- maybe a little more, given it's VW we're talking about.
I very much doubt that the 160hp TDi would make it to the Polo, with Seat being the younger, sportier brand and all...

Petrols:
Hmm... Well, the Golf GT FSI 2.0 150PS (NA) is £17.5k - so the Polo GTi about the same, maybe a little less.

So, GTI could be anywhere in the range £15 to £17.5k??

If so, I can't afford it. :(

Deek.

Remember you're basing this on the cheapest brand that has an engine of this spec. The Fabia is only available in a five-door format, so for Seat and VW equivalent pricing you'd need to add another £500 for the extra two doors.

However, I can't see the 130 Polo breaking the 15k mark, for that price you might as well buy a Golf or a BMW 1 series.

What worries me is, the Lupo GTi's £14,580 when you add metalic paint and air con to it (this is why I don't have one ).

If they are aiming for a Polo price nearer £15k, then I can see why they're waiting until the Lupo's retired before releasing the Polo!!
