surely it must be cheaper after the year though? if you have 1 year NCB. And stay with the same company of course.

yeh of course it would be cheaper than your initial quote, but it would most probably be more then if you took a genuine NCB to any other insurance company.

As i worked for both VW and currently work at Confused.com part of EUI group which contains Admiral, Elephant, Bell, Diamond & Gladiator, all the same company basically for those who didnt know, i thought i would chuck in my 2p worth.

A VW costs more to repair than for example a Vauxhall so for a young driver will cost higher for insurance cover due to the rating factors such as repair costs in event of claim made. Your also not guarenteed a cheaper renewal premium due to rating factors changing at least monthly. Ie more crashes in your postcode area this year means your policy is a higher risk to rate on next year regardless of NCB. On my previous ( & cynical) experience 95% of policholders have no idea how rating factors work and most of your premium is worked out on stats and so are unable to grasp this concept.

10month policies are more when worked out against 12month due to the higher risk factors when calculating them. (anyone wishes to know why pm me and i'll bore you tears on reasons why and you'll quickly develope a hate of all insurance)

The 'ludicrous, outrageous, rip off......' and all the other terms i have heard many a time are basically due to the proposer not meeting the ideal ratings for a company. Every persons profile will match somewhere the same profile a company prefers to insure (their idea of a safe risk). Unfortunately 99.9% ppl including myself have no idea which company come renewal there profile matches best so hence ppl go on a comparison site ring a few other brokers and plump for lowest/proferred provider. Even though there might be a broker in Timbucktoo who they dont even know exists but would have quoted them cheaper still.

As for cover always go fully comp with legal cover unless financially cannot stretch. A decent companies fully comp cover will usually have a suprising amount a cover/clout if ever needed. And dont be swayed by free breakdown offers and such as the breakdown is usually billy basic covering you 10metres from ur front door and no further.

Bottom line however is all insurance, car, home, travel whatever is a rip off even if it does seem cheap but im afraid we all have to lump it.
