To be perfectly honest your not going to be able to go a lot out of a 1.2 engine, if your lucky you might get up a to 5bhp gain but the £ - bhp ratio will not be good.

Save what you can and in a couple of years get something bigger :D

Welcome!

What you've bought is a 9n3 (Mk7, meaning this is the wrong sub-forum, but never mind  nothings different apart from the fron end). There is no 9n2 in the UK. 9n2 = 9n + boot. Hideous looking thing...like this:

I wouldn't bother trying to squeeze any more power out of it. Which 1.2 has it got the 6v 55 BHP or the 12v 65 BHP engine? A panel filter will set you back £30 at least and won't really offer any noticable improvement (2 BHP tops, which is within the error allowance of a dyno) on a naturally aspirated car. Also, if you really insist on one, get a green cotton filter rather than a K&N - The latter have been known to fuxxor up MAFs...I've had no experience of this, but that's what I've heard among the diesel community anyway.

I haven't actually seen any company list a remap for the 1.2, but have a look at these lists to see what a remap can do for a small N/A petrol engine

http://www.superchips.co.uk/index.php?o ... fueltype=1

5 BHP gain tops and that'll set you back £250ish. Not worth it I reckon. Having said that, a remap will give you a "much greater" performance increase than a filter will...the only problem is in this case it's ~4-5 BHP vs 0-2 BHP. I'd just leave it as it is...unfortunately, it's hard to get much out of small naturally aspirated engines without spending a lot. The usual route on an N/A enine is intake mods, exhaust manifold, camshafts, valves. Whilst these are common mods on the likes Mk1/2 Golf GTIs, I doubt aftermarket parts even exist for the 1.2 Polo :(

I'd say wait till you get your next car or save up for a 1.8T transplant.

Ash :)

Hey Ash-

Must of read some wrong information last night on the net then cos im sure i read that somewhere lol

Its got the 1.2 12v (65bhp) petrol engine.. Its got 140 on the clock :D Can you put an actual K&N Air filter on? Not the panel filter.. And would it make the engine sound any different?
Cos two of my firends bought one each 1 put his on a old Rover 25 and it sounded really deep just over 2k revs then my other mate put one on his 09 plate fiat punto and it sounded no different..? Whys that?

Im looking to make it look like a vw polo gti just see the front bumper on ebay going for £299.99 is anywhere going to be cheaper? and where?
And i just want to make the car sound deep and purrr really nice when idle.. What can i get and what is recommended?

Dont really wanna get a next car anytime soon soo looks like im savings up for a 1.8T Transplant 8)

Thanks for all the adivce..

errrh the fiat is sh**e my friend very obvious. Fix It Again Tony!

140 ON THE CLOCK well you will never get to that speed it is a standard set up. Yes you can put anything on that you want if you are prepared to spend the money for no gain worth having. Better spending your money making the car a sheep in wolfs clothing and cruise with it nobody will know and different if you do it right.

my car looks like a gti mk7 9n3 apart from the front end as it is a mk6 9n. all the equipment on the car is gti apart from the engine and body. spent a far bit but the car was due to get new suspension and brakes. I had the opportunity of stripping a brand new gti that was written off after 14 days and 752 miles so all was brand new.

Just ask them for the GTI front grill. Or, since I'm in a good mood, et voila:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-POLO-GTI-CENTR ... 286.c0.m14

And listen to what Sandy (Ritchat) says, he knows his stuff. At first when I read 140 on the clock I thought you meant 140k miles! But then I remembered you said earlier that it had done 30k. There's no way you're gonna get 140 MPH out of the 1.2...you'll be lucky to get it over 100. I've been in my mates 1.2 with the updated engine that puts out a whopping  70 BHP and with his foot welded to the floor it wouldn't go past 105 on the speedo.

To put things into perspective, I've maxed out a standard 9n3 GTI (150 BHP) on Peterlee airfield near Durham and it struggled to get to 140 MPH on the speedo.
