Suspension clamp XZN size or 12 point size?

Post by david burton »

Hi,

Can anyone confirm the XZN bit I need for the suspension strut clamp on my 9N? I think it's an M14 but I've bought all the way up to M16 and have even heard rumours of an M18!

It's the same as a 12-point tool.

Thanks. I have a snapped spring on my KWs!

I'm certain that it is an M14 as it seems that most of the standard kits only go up to M12 as I discovered when I needed to get this bolt out (broken spring). Its is XZX and probaby 12 splines.

Its best to have a tool for spreading the hub clamping bit as well - maybe from Laser Tools via Halfords (not stocked though - so they order it in!).

cheers

did this today - M14 indeed. pain in the backside to put the standard spring back in even with compressors. The KWs snapped yesterday, urgh.

Ah well, back to one standard spring, ordered a replacement from KW and will sort this out next weekend I hope!

Nope. Destroyed the top mount too, bearings everywhere. Thankfully the damper and piston of the KWs look fine.

Actually its usually only the top bearing that falls apart, spring laying in a short heap - yes I've still got one of them in the garage from the original VW spring doing that. Compressing the original tapered spring - yes a bit of a challenge, it helps if you have a few sets of compressors!
