I had to change the hub carrier when I upgraded so that the calipers would be fitted correctly however I was in the fortunate position that the doner car they came from was bulk striped and all I had to was change over the halve shafts and connect everything rather than spliting everything up and installing individually.
It would depend on what you have planned for your car whether or not to go the full monty for the 312 mm.This would mean you will need 16 " alloys(5) of which I have a spare set no tyres though and they were on the car originally before all the upgrades. Pictures on the other polo forum. Clubpolo.
I don't want to sound daft here but you will need brakefluid, a brake bleeding kit, a socket set. a thin sided deep socket 36mm to get the hub nut off. These you need to replace with new ones from VW as one use only. a basic set of spanners ideally ring ended for the bleed nipple on the calipers. Discs Pads Disc retaining screws these may be ok if the ones on your car aren't goosed again can get them from vw. A haynes manual for the torque settings.
You will notice the difference in the braking the first time you try it out and if you need to stop quickly once things have bedded in.
