Lets play guess the noise!!!!

Post by princess_trojan »

Dear All,
Please help, I am close to selling my motor...

In the last 4 months I have: -

Replaced all 4 coils
Replaced anti-roll bar bushes
Replaced drop links

And now I am rewarded with a new noise from the front drivers side suspension area...its not a knocking noise more of a dry ooh ooh noise. Not affected by speed so happens at 20mph and 70mph but not all the time. I was wondering if it wcould be a dry shock absorber??

please please please help with any information you have - I really want to love this car but every time I think its sorted she turns around and craps on me!

Cheers
Glen

My friend had the exact same sound and area as yourself,it drove him insane.Although his was noticable at low speeds.Cant remember for the life of me what it was i'll check with him and post up again.

Dont sell up because of a noise it'll be fixable mate.

I'd think it could be rubbing something or it might just need oiling if you can take it out and have a look ?

The problem is that there is nothing there that should need to be oiled. Have ordered spring compressors from flea-bay and strip the suspension (with the help of my pops) and start by checking the top mounts.

I think I am going crazy with the noise - I tell people about the noise, they come for a drive and it stops, I get in and drive home and it sings to me all the way home

Are you sure that this is not just the usual TCA rear voided bushes weakening and ripping and the "ooh ooh" noise is the two now sort of separated bits of rubber rubbing against each other.

Sounds to me like it could even be a hub or something?
My hub wore out in a weird way, to the bearing wasnt a complete tight fit. Makes a weird knocking, but not all the time

Update time!

Started to strip the suspension, spring compressors were too big and couldnt get a hold so used two old G-clamps - not safe but the joys of working on your drive.

We packed the top mount with grease and noise has gone.......for about a week and now its back again

So it seems to be the tops that need replacing.
