Boot light microswitch

Post by dantheram »

I know this has been covered a thousand times on here but can i get a quick refresh on replacing said item?

I have the trim off and can see the lock mechanism behind the boot handle, where exactly is the light microswitch and do i have to take out the mechanism to replace it?

Thanks,

Dan

Thanks

6X0 947 569

You need to take the boot lock out to get to it - use an M8 spline bit to remove the two bolts

The old switch just pops out once you release its clips

It's only the "black box"/locking mechanism that you can see in the buttom of the bootlid when you open it that you have to remove. No need to take off the trim. It it only takes a few minutes to change it.

It's number 19 on this picture you have to remove. and in that part it is number 20 that is the microswitch.

What about the light on the dash when the boot is open... Does that work?

And have you checked the wires and connections to the bulb? Or the bulb it self ;)

Replaced the bulb when i first got the car - no joy.

The dash 'boot open' light works perfectly.

Microswitch - replaced.

Need a multimeter to see if any power is reaching the terminals, if not god knows how the cables have been damaged.

A common fault is that the break in the rubber tube from the bootlid in to the car... That's where I would check first.

Checked with a multimeter and the light has no earth so all i have to do is cut the wire an stick it to something metal and it should work.

s**t p*** b*******s!!

Cut the brown and red wire and attached it to some exposed metal nearby and the light works fine BUT it never goes off  .

Can someone give me some adivce here because i know little about electrics, i thought the switch in the boot lock would have turned off the power and thus the light but it seems to just stay on

You said it was missing an groundconnection...

I think that the microswitch may infact cut off the ground when the boot is closed... So as I wrote before... check the rubber tube between the car and the boot lid. :)

I just checked on my own... There is always 12V to the light even when the boot is closed. So the microswitch does cut off the ground connection.

I checked the tubing and the wire looks fine in there.

So the microswitch in the latch cuts the ground, what a bastard, if it cut the power i'd be home an dry now.

Can't think of any other solution other than rewiring the earth, which is not going to happen so . . . . . . i give up again :(

have you checked the groundwires from the switch?

If you remove the cover on the inside of the lid? one of them must be broken... Unless it's the wire in the C-pillar. It shouldn't be a big problem to check...
