Post by daz16v »

Just wondering how hard it was to change the auxillary belt on my 6n2 gti ,and if there were any "how to" guides anywhere.Ive done a search on here but couldnt find anything.Already got a belt, just wondering if it was an easy job and if there is anything i should know before i start!!
thanks

This the same as a drive belt ???

I have a new drive belt to fit but didnt know how to check if the adjuster needed replacing too, the adjuster on its own is about £50

Aux belt drives the AC pump, power steering and alternator

Adjuster rarely needs replacing unless it starts to squeak

Its dead easy to change - just need a 16mm spanner or socket to release the tension on the adjuster whilst popping the old belt on

Just take note of the route the belt takes prior to swapping

And make sure it is a genuine VW belt!!!

It automatically retensions when you release the tensioner from the spanner

And yes,, easier to have the undertray off with the wheel removed on that side
