Seriously? lol.
hahahahaha

Selecting reverse is the worst when its cold, I used to go through the gears first before selecting reverse because it never liked going in first time.
I was told by one of the guys at work when i rebuilt my box that engaging 3rd before reverse lined the tranny up properly. he showed me why with the box split and it made sense so i do it all the time.... with no issues. Slips in like a dream

2nd gear is a little iffy on the syncro when my box is cold so i always let her warm up and try not to use it when cold by jumping straight to 3rd if possible. I always find that double de clutching down the box is good when possible to minimise wear on syncros.

The issue with my box was the 5th gear bearing had cast its needle rollers through the box :( I replaced all of the bearings with Timkin uprated metal ones. The rest of the box was fine and has been going like a dream for the past 10,000 miles 8)

Have you been Double clutching like Vin Diesel Matt? :)

I always found 2nd to be a biatch too when the box was cold, sometimes its worth bypassing 2nd and go straight into 3rd :)

2nd Gear has got to be my favourite gear though, not for general day to day driving but when you want to give the car a blast a rolling start from 2nd is awesome :)

Loved it on the GTI 8) Type R is brutal in 2nd

Yeah well I have a 1.4 8v...

Anyway If I'm going slower then more people can appreciate the time and effort I've put into the car instead of saying "what was that red blur"

Must admit I do love cruisers too though, the GTI got so much attention when I was pottering about in town it was great.
Dont really get that in the Civic because they are so common and not as pretty as my old GTI :(
