Looks like the new owner hasnt looked after it too well
I remember when he sold his GTI he replaced it with a 20V 6N2 GTI beast
Cheers for that Joe, totally sweet for you to point that out for me! I've sent the chap a message so here's hoping I score the manifold and exhaust!TriggerFish wrote:http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.p ... try2315903
Manifold, and catback exhuast - £120!
Also got a cammed engine for £300. It's the guy I got my brakes off of. I'd have gone for them if I weren't looking at changing the engine in the summer.
Joe
Totally agreeTriggerFish wrote:As Ben says - the different cams allow for longer injection durations so you can get more fuel/air in per cycle. Usually gives more power but often at the expense of lower down torque as they tend to move the power to higher in the rev-range.
Also very expensive - and not really worth it IMO given the cost power gains on this engine (and gearbox rebuilds!) vs. a 1.8t conversion.
If you get Cams done then its probably best buying a fully programmable ECU to replace the original so you can fiddle with the VVT and get it to come in earlier, it would still give you the same power of 160 bhp but you could totally alter the midrange power making it a lot faster.Trottagti wrote:My bhp figure is pretty much 150 now as my ecu is adaptive so learns how you drive and adapts to your style, guys at amd said il see over 150 once it learns more, I can't see how 10bhp more will feel different, I'd stick to around 150 and strip it out if it's speed and cornering your after. Alot of headwork and trouble comes with cams and that mate....
Score! I got this raceland manifold and de cat exhaust, it's exactly what I wanted apart from I'm gonna have the twin pipe changed for a single pipe hidden effort. As it stands fresh from the donor car it looks like this:TriggerFish wrote:http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/index.p ... try2315903

If VTEC was set at 4K-4.5K you would have to be doing 85mph on the motorway for it to kick in which isnt too bad but yeah if you lower it any further it would be a nightmare on long journeys. The fuel economy would be awful too as you quite rightly saidTriggerFish wrote:Wouldn't that get really tiring being in VTECH when cruising on a motorway or something? Must kill the MPG too! Bet it's good fun, which is more important!

Hopefully be getting it fitted in a week or two so I can then press on with the cruise control mod I've also got lined up.
Top marks to Joe for sharing this sale in the first place, cheers buddy
