However, there's a guy in the Czhech Republic who seems to work at Continental/VDO who make the GTI instrument panels. I bought my brand spanking squeaking virgin new GTI instrument panel for my TSI from him, and for an extra sum of 20€ he would have enabled the needle sweep (and for an another 60€ fitted blue 'R' needles). So it's definitely in the "hard" programming of the instruments and can't be enabled simply just with VCDS.
He can also reflash your existing GTI instrument panel to enable the needle sweep, but you'd really need to want that feature badly to send your panel abroad just for that...

Re: needle sweep
Anyone ever get this to work on the gti clocks
Re: needle sweep
It is not possible with Vag-com, Ross-Tech already provide the option to enable it.
The only way it would be possible for this is to Edit the eeprom file stored in the cluster

Again, sorry for resurrecting this thread, but it's for the benefit of anyone who is still wondering how to do this!
CAN be done with vag-com/VCDS, staging usually isn't available. In instruments--:> adaptation, enable "Indicator Celebration Mode", there you go!
Needle sweep active. Tried & tested on 2 R Lines

As far as I know, only H type clusters can do this.
Re: needle sweep
Will my 2013 R-Line have this function? I know Wilxay has the same cluster as me and he enabled it on his.
Re: needle sweep
Also is there any specific Vagcom I need to buy to enable the extra functions? Abit clueless cos theres so many on ebay!

Go with that one, will do exactly what you need for a fraction of the cost of a genuine one.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

Re: needle sweep
I can offer to enable this on clusters that don't support staging or Indication celebration
