i fitted xxr 527's to my car, looked the business!!!!

spec:
17"
8.25J
Offset 25

Wrapped in 215/40/17

Lowered on 25/40 H&R springs

didnt rub THAT much only on wollowing bumps and hard bumps!
+it was only catching a little bit on the tyre

have you got any pictures?! this is exactly what i'm thinking of doing. found a nice set of H&R 25/40 but I don't think it will be low enough so I'm thinking towards 35/55...

although now I'm realising how wide the wheels are, 35/55 would be stupid

unfortunately no pictures, only had them on for about 40 miles!!
if i was to fit them again (which i might) id get coilovers and 195/40 or at the most 205/40 but may require some arch work to run low
