Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
What do you people think of under bonnet insulation? What's the purpose?
My 2011 6R doesn't have one.
My old 9N polo had one and the noise level was still high.
Do you think it's worth buying one and installling it?

Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
It dampens down engine noise and insulates the engine more
Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
I wanted to get rid of mine but thought it must be there for a purpose.

Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
I did not think twice about fitting the Ford under bonnet sound insulation to wife's 1.6SI with the Zetec engine, if it was the Ghia model it would have been fitted it at factory.
Sometimes, the manufacturers need to trim costs a bit and that might seem to be a bit penny pinching, but it is reality.
If you want to do this, go for it, challenge the norm!

For some reason, the Blue GT can sound a bit like a diesel when cold, so I removed the felt and put some Dynamat Xtreme behind it. Made a big difference.

Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
I think that all modern engines sound a bit like that when first started, even worse if you keep the car in a garage as the sound bounces around. Bring back nice big fat lazy engines that sound as smooth as sewing machines as soon as you start them, and guide you to a filling station every few miles - I know about this, I have an Audi S4, mind you it is noisier than my old 2.8 V6 4Motion B5 Passat - and slightly more economic on petrol. So there you go, "bag of spanners noises and good economy" or "smooth as a sewing machine and very greedy" - that seems to be the current choice - bring on improvements - oh no, that probably means silence then a lot of whining/humming???TheFrog wrote:For some reason, the Blue GT can sound a bit like a diesel when cold, so I removed the felt and put some Dynamat Xtreme behind it. Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
From my test drive today I am certainly looking to buy some insulation for under the bonnet. Its a 1.2 3cylider and sounds like my 2.5 T5 engine..... a bucket of bolts.
I added insulation (vw genuine) onto the engine, under bonnet, engine cover and bottom engine cover of my T5 and it works great..... i can now hear them speaking on the speaker at mcdonalds so certainly worth it on noise reduction.
The 1.2 polo engine sounds rackety so would like to hear about what genuine insulation is available for the 6r.

Thank you Peter
Is said to be £51.03 from dealers so need to ask for some discount.
There has been mention that the insulation comes with the clips already can you confirm this?

Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
Finally installed sound proofing foam and then insulation carpet on top.Noise has reduced to a comfortable level now.
Planning to put some more sound proofing material in the boot and doors later. Thanks for all your inputs.

Re: Your opinion on Under bonnet Insulation
Am considering fitting under bonnet insulation to my polo 9N3, wondered what model 9N the OP had, he doesn't say. VW sell part 6Q0863835, there's also same part with C and A suffix but I don't know what the difference is.
Thanks
