9n airbag light on. Suggestions?

Hi all,
My airbag light is permanently on
When I took the instrument panel out to fix a connection issue, I spotted a piece of black electrical tape over the light (cheeky).
I would like to address the problem properly.

Can you please advise where should I start? What to look at first?
Is a VAG error clearing a good idea? If yes, can anyone in London help for an ice-cold pint?

I read some posts about a possible defective ring that can involve removing the steering wheel...is this true?

Any advice would be appreciated.

First thing is a scan with VCDS which will identify which component of the air bag system as a fault and allow you to proceed with the next steps. Once it’s scanned it’ll be much easier to resolve
