Fuel consumption question
Hi all.
Quick question around fuel consumptions.
I do an 18 mile journey on country A roads and not heavy footed on the accelerator but after an observation today I can't seem to get the car above 30mpg, it's pretty much sitting about 26mpg.
Is this normal??
Im convinced at the moment that this rear noise issue that some of us are experiencing ATM is having some form of impact on how the car is behaving as Its certainly not behaving like other VW DSGs I've had.
The issue Im experiencing is VW technical team always say there is nothing wrong or couldn't find any faults but I drive my car all the time and know it's not right. Tbh I am actually sick of the car because of the amount of issues I've had since bought April last year, so much to the point that the finance company are looking at my rejection complaint.

If you are maintaining a steady speed between say 40 and 60mph then I would expect around 35mpg upwards
Are there many inclines?
What is the noise you are getting from the rear of the car? I've had a few issues with mine but as yet I haven't gone down the rejection route

I used to get 40-45 but it's literally just plummeted since Saturday.. i read further in group that some people said about the DBF thing.
I noticed that the exhaust is a lot louder than it used to be, gears are held longer, I.e. car taking the gear change from 3rd to 4th upto nearly 40mph on a flat..
The noise is the reversing mooing noise, that some of us have/are experiencing, to which I have for over a year now, this is why for me I'm going down the route of rejection as I think VW are taking the Mick especially when I bought it to their attention 1month after purchase April last year..

It didn't cure it but so far I have lived with it - however I feel that it's not right for VW to sell the car knowing such an issue exists
I had low mpg but it only lasted for day and I put it down to the PPF/GPF and a forced regen
I ran it in sports mode to try keep revs high in each gear

Concerning the noise, they replaced pads and discs when I reported the issue, however within weeks It came back again, I've then spent the last year trying to get them to resolve it.monty831 wrote:I have that same noise. Managed to resolve the issue around loud exhaust and the suddeb drop in MPG it was in regen mode.. 15 minutes in S Mode down the dual carriageway resolved that issue.

What put me off is that VW don't even have a service action open for this problem so I can't see how VW finance are going to simply let me hand the car back if it's not an accepted fault
I have lots of rattles and poor fit in the cabin but proving it is detrimental to the use of the car is another thing
I hope you are able to find a resolution

Its been a long winded process and the decision is still in their court. I've explained to them that they have 3 options as I explained to them that its unacceptable for a car to make that kinda of noise when it's brand new. I said to them the following.
1. Get a firm date from VW factory when they have a fix, depending on that I will make a decision.
2. Replace the car with same model but without fault.
3. Provide a full refund.
The last time I took my car in the garage they were told by VW technical not to replace any parts on the car as they know of the issue but do not a resolution yet but the factory are working on it but no time frames can be provided. This suggests to me that there is a fault with this car that they need to accept and sort the customer expectations out.
Its been a horrible experience if I'm honest and I think that VW are just being tardy with updates etc and as you said earlier they are still selling them..

They were knowingly selling A0 platform VAGs with the safety issue of a rear seatbelt potentially unbuckling with 3 people in the back - without having a firm fix formulated between Jan 18 and Nov 18. Should've been brought to book for that.
On that basis, moving brakes in reverse is probably very low on their priority list.
Did your pad change involve a non-OEM brand? If not, that would probably be a starting point for a mechanic with common sense and not tied to the VAG parts bin.
Or some kind of harmonic damping system - it's a resonance hum.

Concerning the replacement pads I am not 100% sure, though they were replaced at a main dealer, so I'd be surprised if they didn't use OEM brakes.
You mention about the noise dampner, should this not be something that VW should provide/know abour, after all they built the car..

Well they knowingly sold EA888 engines (2007 to 2012 I think) with bad pistons and piston rings for 4 or 5 years till they finely fix it. They make cars that are great to drive, but when they cock-up they don't do the right thing to admit their faults and sort the affected customers out.
Anyone remember that awful 1.4 twin charge engine that had suicidal tendencies?
A litre of oil per 1000km is definitely not normal, and with these days of DPF and GPF fitment, that kind of oil consumption is going to generate s lot of incombustible ash for those filter systems to store.
