Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
hi,
I checked wiring
t73a/62 goes to sb28 and there is a flow - checked by multimeter
t73a/5 and t73b/3 - should they go directly or can they go through SC12 and SC14 ?
I checked voltage T14/12 connector there is always around 12v ( both connectors )
I aslo checked T14/10 and its act funny, when light switch on 0 or AUTO, when its not dark - lights not activated, there is also around 12v, but when I change position to side lights or main beam its drops to less than 2v, which I belive is not enough for them to lit
I did little test, disconnected t73b/5 and supplied with 9v, DRL did light up dimmed
I think there is some issue with t73b/5 and t73b/6
Still cant connect numer plate wire as everything stop working
I took complete headlights from the van where they were factory fitted and they worked before I removed them
Any chance they might be wrong ?

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
According to the BCM scan, the problem is in how the BCM receives the power and how it supplies it for the different functions as far as the lights are concerned.
Take a look at:
T73a / 62
T73a / 66
T73b / 68
... or the problem it is the BCM parameterization that I mentioned earlier.
I suppose the license plate light problem will be solved when you install the new Dimmer, etc... It all depends on how you have made and installed the BCM adaptation wiring (3 viewtopic.php?f=56&t=70736&start=45#p528735).

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
What is T73a/66? Did you mean 63 ?
All that errors came up after I disconnected plug from T73b to check wiring connections
They all clear now
Only dtc I am getting are from door contacts, I think micro switches are gone, all except passenger showing constantly closed
Dimmer should arrive on Friday then I will have a look
I might try buying a another BCM, any advice which one to look for? Any particular?
All connections are exactly as in your guide, so it looks like BCM causing it

All connectios are made exactly as in your guide, so if it worked for other people, should work for me as well
Looks like tham BCM causing some issues
I dont have any idea about BCM parametrization
I am quite new to VW diagnostic, used to have only Mercs, but fell in love with T5
I will buy VAG Can Pro and another BCM, if I will find one in decent price
Does it have to be 90D or 90B will do as well ?
Really sorry for bothering you, but you seen state of my interior, not very nice when all things flying aroun

Hi Ciclo,
One thing confuse me
Wires from T73a/5 and T73b/3 needs to go directly to T14 headlight connector or can they go through fuse holder C
SC12 and SC14 ?
I ran them through the fuses, can that be a case ?
I bought VCP and 3 more BCM for tests
090
090B
090D
I am complete novice to VCP, so we will see how it goes

Without fuses it is as indicated for original electrical installations (erWin), with fuses it is an adaptation, both methods are correct. No problem.
I bought VCP and 3 more BCM for tests ........ this is a BCMs party ...

090B

I am complete novice to VCP, so we will see how it goes ... to parameterize or edit a single value of the BCM PQ25 with VCP it is necessary to extract all the parameters to a text file (this is done by the VCP), edit the value of the parameter, and reload the text file.
I recommend doing an editing test with one of the worst BCMs you have, and if everything goes well you do it with the BCM that is finally installed.

Hi Ciclo,
All stuff should be with me by the end of the week, I am off to Greece for a weekend, so when I am back with „charged batteries” I will start uneven battle with BCMs and VCP
Many thanks for your help
Can I donate you or something for your help,
really appreciated
Will keep you posted and hopefully post some photos with working headlights and T6 interior
Thanks again
Lucas

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Before I start my adventure with VCP, any idea which parameter I need to change to change voltage output on T73b/5 and 6 ?
I think this is a main issue, when main beam is on it drops to 2v, in my opinion it should be around 8v
It is 12v for a full brightness, 2v is definitely not enough for LED to lit

The best contribution / donation you can make is to post / share in this thread the results of your retrofits with 'many images'.
That extra effort to take pictures while you work is the best donation for me.

Hi Exoticdevil,Exoticdevil wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:02 am Hello everyone!
I have updated BCM til 090D max. Retrofited auto-headligts, cruise, MFSW and rain sensor. Biiig thanks to ciclo and Adam87 for sharing their knowlage.
And almost everything is working
I have learn a lot by doing this. Crazy feeling to think about T5 wiring everythere i go
My next step is refrofiting xenon lights. Originaly car came with H7 headlights. Selfleveling and headwasher kits is on its way from Kufatec.
By searching for new bumper for fitting headwasher nozzels i have found the guy parting out T6. AND now i just wonder, if it's dig difference T6 xenon/led headlights wiring from T5.1 xenons? Decided to go all in on this project
There are several differences, both in the wiring of the headlights T14 connectors (xenon vs led) and in the management-coding / wiring of the high and low beams between the Stalk and the BCM.
The wiring of the headlamp leveling system is identical (similar).
Hmm ... for example, the T6 wiring / system can handle T5 xenon headlights, but the T5 wiring / system cannot manage LED headlights.
For the LED headlights you will need a BCM 7E0.
A very clear example is that Adam87 installed in his T5 the T6 system for the management of lights (due to the HBA).
The best thing is that you get the original diagrams (erWin) and take a look at it.

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Hi ciclo, hope you are well, Many thanks for all your help, The lights, rain sensors, Wipers etc all look to work well.
Here we have the latest scan, The van is still sat in the same place it has been for 2 months or so due to the Clutch slave cylinder giving in so I have not given anything a proper test run out in the real world. Clutch change is booked in for next month when It will be treated to a mild sachs upgrade
I have taken the opportunity while it is off the road and the seat/carpets are out to upgrade the "camping" electrics, adding power points to the rear, rear speakers, leisure power to the dash area for stereo and interior lighting.
I have still to install the level sensors as in all the chaos with bits everywhere I misplaced my wheel locking key!
I am on the lookout for some plastic conduit for the level sensor wires and I think the easiest place to get it all is a car breakers so this is on my to do list (which is thankfully getting smaller )
The sensors will physically be installed when it is in having the clutch done.
Randomly I had a few error codes to do with CAN gateway and incorrect coding but stupidly I did not save them and I cant remember now what it is I changed to get them away.
Scan below......

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Hi Ciclo,
I manage to get DRLs working with main beam with PWM value 40 is about right, with value of 20 as you sugested they not going on
Still struggle with number plate lights, when they connected ilumination and position lights staying on even after locking a van ( at least number plates light coming up, shame it does not switch off )
I think I know what is an issue with high beam, I have 7e0 stalks, so will have to remove wires from T41 and follow a guide for Adam
Any advice ?
Very slowly I getting use to VCP

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Hi reido80, thank you very much for the report.reido80 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 1:35 pm Hi ciclo, hope you are well, Many thanks for all your help, The lights, rain sensors, Wipers etc all look to work well.

Comparing the last two VCDS autoscan that you have posted in this thread, I see some changes you have made to the BCM coding to get rid of those error codes you mention.
I recommend the winmerge program for quick and easy file comparisons, it's very useful in these upgrade processes.
Hi bropasiek, good to know that the PWM value for parking/side lights is 40 for T5.1 bixenon headlights. Perfect!bropasiek wrote: ↑Mon Sep 21, 2020 7:08 pm Hi Ciclo,
I manage to get DRLs working with main beam with PWM value 40 is about right, with value of 20 as you sugested they not going on
Still struggle with number plate lights, when they connected ilumination and position lights staying on even after locking a van ( at least number plates light coming up, shame it does not switch off )
I think I know what is an issue with high beam, I have 7e0 stalks, so will have to remove wires from T41 and follow a guide for Adam
Any advice ?
Very slowly I getting use to VCP
Please tell me exactly how you connected the license plate lights.
Look at the following picture and please tell me you weren't wrong, T17/16 vs T17/17.
https://servimg.com/view/18943939/1095
The original wires are identical, but it is not the same signal.
I don't think it's a problem with the Stalks, it's more likely a wiring fault.
As an example, stalks 7E0 (T6) and BCM Max should be wired as follows ...
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2nv91 ... luc3M/view ... (https://www.uk-polos.net/viewtopic.php?p=503577#p503577)
taking into account that this is a diagram for the 6R and its peculiarities (fuse box), for 6R Europe the fuses 34 and 36 are assigned to the High beams.
I recommend looking at the original diagrams for T6 (erwin, elsawin).
VCDS
Once wired, it is necessary to activate Byte28 Bit3 and deactivate Byte23 Bit0 in the BCM, and assign the value 1 to channel 54.
Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Hi Ciclo,
Old T17/17 wire is directly connected to T10/10
Old T17/16 wire goes to T10/3 connected with T73a/45 and T73b/7 ( number plate light output )
I might try to connect T73b/7 direct to number plate lights, for now it goes through relay switched on by main beam
My battery was going flat all the time, so its temporary solution
Originally I had different stalks, but with new BCM steering angle was playing up
Old ones were old type, that stayed on once pushed back to activate high beam
New ones activate it by pulse ( obviously you know that )
For some reason BCM don’t recognise that pulse
Should I find different stalks ?
For now I have wires ready for HBA, but still looking for mirror with camera from T6
I dont have any more ideas whats wrong

Re: Auto headlight retrofit. VW Transporter. T5 (2010-2015)
Hi bropasiek,
Well, there are some secrets that I have never explained on the forum.
Listens :
- Do not invent anything new other than what is explained in my instructions in this thread.
- The wire that goes from T10/3 to T73a/45 must be a totally new wire, and it must never be connected to any other wire/cable, .... isolate the original wire as indicated in my instructions ...
What if we imagine that the original T73a/45 wire has one or two diodes sandwiched in that line ... when non-MAX BCMs are factory installed...
The interior lights are powered by the T73b/4 through the dimmer (as explained).
Together with T73b/7 these are signals 58 electronically managed in different ways according to need.
It is what you should have done from the beginning, otherwise you bypass the license plate lights diagnostics.
The new 7E0 Stalks (1x -with return spring-) need to be wired to the BCM and coded as I explained to you in my previous post.bropasiek wrote: ↑Sat Sep 26, 2020 8:25 pm Originally I had different stalks, but with new BCM steering angle was playing up
