Hi me again.
Just test drove a reef blue 19 plate gti plus with 6 speed dsg. Really liked the colour and it had the none red inserts.
Couple of things i noticed, the windows didnt want to go up or down using the fob. It had manual aircon, no rear cam or BLIS :/
Questions;
The new polo has a 7 speed dsg, do they both use the ‘wet’ version so dont fall to bits after a stage 1 map?
I’m waiting to see what sort of finance options come back on monday to decide if its better to get a brand new one or plump for the 19 plate that also had KW suspension, an alcantara retrimmed steering wheel and a set of oz wheels and custom exhaust at a £3000 tag.
When I ordered my GTI+, I went for the dark iron grey dash inserts; I thought the satin red velvet inserts were more suited to a younger owner and I couldn’t be described as a younger owner these days!
I’ve never tried opening / closing the windows on my GTI+ with the key fob, but then I never open the windows

; it’s always windows closed and air-con on 24/7 for me.
Edit; just been and checked my car - there’s a ‘Convenience Opening’ option for the windows in the ‘Opening and Closing’ sub menu in the ‘Vehicle settings’ (accessed via the infotainment screen). The options are a) open and close all windows with the key fob, b) just the driver’s window or c) switch the option off, which is the factory default setting. Mine was set to the factory default setting and I suspect it was in the car you test drove.
Manual air-con was the standard offering on the pre-facelift GTI and GTI+. I think the only pre-facelift Polo that got climate control as standard was the SEL model. I find the manual air-con is fine; equally as good as the climate control I had in my previous Polo GTI (a 2016 previous generation model) and I don’t miss not having climate control.
Reversing camera was also an extra cost option. I know some mk7 Golf owners over on golfgtiforum.co.uk had a reversing camera retro-fitted to their cars, so it might be worth investigating what the cost would be to get this done - either by one of the companies that specialise in VW retro-fits or by a VW dealer. Ensure they quote you for the factory type installation where the camera fits behind the VW emblem that’s used as the handle to open the tailgate.
Presumably BLIS is the blind spot information system? I think VW did originally offer this as an option on early GTI+ models, but it was no longer available as an option on the GTI+ when I ordered my car in Feb 2020. Bizarrely, I think it was still an option on the lower spec ‘non-plus’ GTI though.
I’m pretty certain the 7 speed DSG in the facelift GTI is the wet clutch version but I’m not 100% certain on that, so best to check with the dealer if you do go for a new GTI - that’s assuming the dealer will know!

(they aren’t always up to speed on the technical details).
As for the modifications; it might be worth checking with your insurance company that they would be happy to cover you with a modified GTI+. It’d also be worth checking what the warranty position would be as modifications might invalidate all or part of the warranty.
