I have no idea - as far as I can see, there’s no mention of it on VW’s website. Having said that, I have a saved copy of an old brochure for the pre-facelift Polo and I can’t see any reference to the headliner mounted sunglasses holder for the pre-facelift car either, but my GTI+ definitely has one, although I’ve never used it 😯.

Bearing in mind the facelift uses much of the pre-facelift car’s interior, I’d be very surprised if the sunglasses holder wasn’t carried over to the facelift model. If not, there are plenty of other storage places to keep a pair of sunglasses (glovebox, door pockets, centre console, cubby under the armrest). Over the years, there have been quite a few instances of mk7 Golf owners on forums complaining of a mysterious interior rattle / vibration in their cars that they couldn’t locate; turns out it was often their sunglasses in the overhead sunglasses holder that was the cause 😄.

Am i right in thinking that any Iphone type device would have to be plugged in to achieve car play? It won't wirelessly mirror?

Do the new Polo's still have the weird sound generators that want turning off / down loads? The only experience I ever had of one of these was in an early golf R and it just sounded dodgy when cruising.
This from VW’s website suggests that CarPlay is wireless;

I’d assume the facelift Polo GTI does still have a soundaktor. I set mine to ‘eco’ (or whatever the lowest setting is) on the first day I got the car and have never changed it since. IMHO it’s quiet enough in ‘eco’ to not be obtrusive.

Hi me again.

Just test drove a reef blue 19 plate gti plus with 6 speed dsg. Really liked the colour and it had the none red inserts.

Couple of things i noticed, the windows didnt want to go up or down using the fob. It had manual aircon, no rear cam or BLIS :/

Questions;

The new polo has a 7 speed dsg, do they both use the ‘wet’ version so dont fall to bits after a stage 1 map?

I’m waiting to see what sort of finance options come back on monday to decide if its better to get a brand new one or plump for the 19 plate that also had KW suspension, an alcantara retrimmed steering wheel and a set of oz wheels and custom exhaust at a £3000 tag.

When I ordered my GTI+, I went for the dark iron grey dash inserts; I thought the satin red velvet inserts were more suited to a younger owner and I couldn’t be described as a younger owner these days!

I’ve never tried opening / closing the windows on my GTI+ with the key fob, but then I never open the windows 😀; it’s always windows closed and air-con on 24/7 for me.
Edit; just been and checked my car - there’s a ‘Convenience Opening’ option for the windows in the ‘Opening and Closing’ sub menu in the ‘Vehicle settings’ (accessed via the infotainment screen). The options are a) open and close all windows with the key fob, b) just the driver’s window or c) switch the option off, which is the factory default setting. Mine was set to the factory default setting and I suspect it was in the car you test drove.

Manual air-con was the standard offering on the pre-facelift GTI and GTI+. I think the only pre-facelift Polo that got climate control as standard was the SEL model. I find the manual air-con is fine; equally as good as the climate control I had in my previous Polo GTI (a 2016 previous generation model) and I don’t miss not having climate control.

Reversing camera was also an extra cost option. I know some mk7 Golf owners over on golfgtiforum.co.uk had a reversing camera retro-fitted to their cars, so it might be worth investigating what the cost would be to get this done - either by one of the companies that specialise in VW retro-fits or by a VW dealer. Ensure they quote you for the factory type installation where the camera fits behind the VW emblem that’s used as the handle to open the tailgate.

Presumably BLIS is the blind spot information system? I think VW did originally offer this as an option on early GTI+ models, but it was no longer available as an option on the GTI+ when I ordered my car in Feb 2020. Bizarrely, I think it was still an option on the lower spec ‘non-plus’ GTI though.

I’m pretty certain the 7 speed DSG in the facelift GTI is the wet clutch version but I’m not 100% certain on that, so best to check with the dealer if you do go for a new GTI - that’s assuming the dealer will know! 😅 (they aren’t always up to speed on the technical details).

As for the modifications; it might be worth checking with your insurance company that they would be happy to cover you with a modified GTI+. It’d also be worth checking what the warranty position would be as modifications might invalidate all or part of the warranty.

Hi all, collected my new Polo GTI at the start of this week. Can confirm it has a sunglasses holder, Android Auto and Apple Carplay are both wireless. Happy to answer any questions anyone has about it!

Must admit I'm not a fan of the 'Polo' or 'GTI' in the middle of the boot lid, feels like trying to be different for different's sake and the new font is insipid.

Great news :)

Out of interest, when did you order yours? and what Colour did you go for?

A couple of questions.

1) What's the car like pulling away? Does it have that tiny irritating pause before moving off, like a lot of autos do?
Only ask, as the only test drive I've had before ordering my new Polo GTI, was way back in 2018 when the mk6 first came out and I remember a somewhat brown trouser moment trying to pull out into fast moving traffic. My RS Clio EDC was the same, though somewhat mitigated if running in sport mode.

2) The intermittent wipers. Are they auto "rain sensing" only? Or can you choose the speed manually. The Focus ST let you choose in the infotainment settings which you preferred.

3) Is there much difference in the DCC settings (IE. normal/sport)? Seem to think it was an option back when I test drove a mk6.

Interested to hear an owners opinion.

Enjoy your new car. Jealous I am..............

Seems to be a VAG thing. Skoda and Seat have the model name centrally placed on the tailgate / boot lid too. Not sure about Audi.

As someone as already asked, have you got any photos and what options did you go for?

How are you finding the steering wheel touchy buttin things and the climate control non button operation on the move?

@STGTD

Thanks for the informative response. Good to know the window option can be enabled!

I think the car i looked at was soon to be the end of its warranty but the parts changes are all reversible if something were to happen.

This was a cancelled order so didn't decide the spec, only "options" are the paint and the grey dash. I snapped it up about a month ago. To provide a bit of context, I've upgraded from a 66 plate 110bhp Ibiza. I had a Mk8 Golf GTD on order, which just kept on getting delayed. Given the many faults with the new Golf, I got cold feet and cancelled and opted for a car which was a bit more fun, and more importantly already built and on a boat!

Very pleased with it so far, up to 700 miles since collecting the car on Monday with all sorts of weather conditions thrown its way. I haven't pushed the car fully yet, been running it in and won't fully push until 1,000 miles. As such, I can't really comment on how it drives fully, how it differs in sport etc just yet, but will be sure to update when the time comes. Regarding the gearbox, it's my first auto so not necessarily the best person to comment, but compared to family members' cars, when pulling away it does seem to be much more responsive. No problems pulling out of busy junctions etc. Re the wipers, I think they're just rain sensing, but you can adjust how sensitive they are with the little toggle on the top of the stalk.

Haven't found the steering wheel controls as bad as I expected, I'm not accidentally pressing things in the way that has been reported previously. The climate control is taking a bit of getting used to - the Ibiza had very manual toggles making adjustments very easy, though the system in the Polo isn't too bad, far better than the Mk8 Golf. I tend to just set the temperature at the start of the drive and don't give much thought to it after that.

Looks great!

Good to hear about the majority of controls. The visual changes front and back vs the non facelift are good imo, not that the pre-facelift is bad!
