Mirror seal

Post by Nora »

Has anyone else had an issue with the rubber seal on the mirror arm of a 2023> BZ GTi? As the seal on the offside arm where it runs under the folding mirror is torn. This seal is not cosmetic and is meant to prevent water from entering under the mirror and working its way down to the folding mirror mechanism.
I’m gonna raise a warranty claim for this and see what happens

Never experienced this in the 4 years I owned my 2020 Polo GTI+ which was a pre-facelift car, but the door mirror assemblies were the same as those on the current (facelift) car.

Can't say I have noticed this at all and had my pre-facelift 6 years already. My advice is to have it looked at under warranty to get it sorted.

It’s never happened to me before, even on the previous AW car, and the other side is fine. It’s not as if it’s a cosmetic issue because it’s designed to prevent water and dirt from being pushed underneath the mirror and working its way into the folding mirror mechanism. What I’m not sure about is the seal a separate item/part No or will it need a complete assembly replacement

The car was back to the dealer and I’m awaiting a response from them to confirm that it issue is going to be resolved by them and we can book it in for the job to be completed

Update:
The car finally was fixed under warranty, a complete new mirror arm was fitted, reusing the old mirror back and mirror lens. However they managed to break the mirror lense while installing it in the new arm, so I will have to return tomorrow morning to let them fit the new mirror lens. So as an apology they are going to send me a hamper for my troubles.

In a side note: I was told that this isn’t the first case where the seal has failed, and it seems that this is a QC issue with the seal sits proud and isn’t seated between the case halves, and that they suggested that it is a good
idea that if you can press the seal down with your fingers and you hear it click, it’s likely that it wasn’t fitted correctly

Yeah they did!!
However I returned to the dealer this morning and they fitted the new mirror glass, and they also put fuel in the car. Then when I arrived home a courier came with a 6 bottle case of mixed wines

Wow, :) This is the first time I've heard of something like this. Bravo to them, this is a very good move to acknowledge their mistake.

How is it possible that a mirror glass is broken at an authorized dealership?🤦‍♂️
Nobody's perfect, but... imagine the parts that can't be seen and that require knowledge and certain skills... torques, positioning, etc.
Not to discredit a specific vehicle brand, but it's more than obvious, regardless of where on the planet, that humanity is lacking people with simple skills.
Smartphones, TikTok, and all that junk from the esoteric world are surely to blame.

The only thing people want to improve is their salary.
I know countless people who don't deserve even a quarter of the salary they earn... "countless people" ...with academic degrees.

Humanity has been surprised by the ultra-specialization of the 21st century.
We'll see what happens with robotics... I guess someone will have to fix those talking vacuum cleaners.
