Tdi transmission compability

Post by amer6R »

Hi guys,

Well I found put what was the klunking noise when I realease the gas pedal, it isnt the clutch plate center piece, it was the input shaft bearing.

Unfortunatly for me, it seems that in my case the differential bearings are dead ( how and why this early i'm not sure).

I was driving recently then i got a strange noise from right side of the car ( like when a piece of rock falls between rotor and pad) - scratching metallic sound.
It lasted till first parking lot where i inspected the brakes and gave a look under the bonet.

It seems in most cases it's not possible to replace those bearings ( since some part of the differential becomes pitted 🤷)

My question since these transmissions are MQ250 02 family....
Can I pick a transmission from fabia mk1, polo 9n3, ibiza mk2 1.9TDI .... since my KFK transmission is double the price?

In principe any mq250 is physically okay. But you need to make sure the gear ratios also add up.

I've been reading a vw 02R manual, older polo transmissions have a bigger 108mm driveshaft flage (triple roller joint), while 6r has 100mm.

Just to refresh up this topic.
I went in person the 1.9tdi transmissions are the same except the flange ends, and a shifter tower. You cant put 1.6 tdi ones on 1.9 tdi they are not the same shape ( you can even see this on etka pictures). And the sealing ring is not the same part number.

I have checked six, 1.6 tdi transmissions today. There is no output shaft play, but they are all way to noisy. They should be pretty silent ( the one 1.9 tdi was silent).
1.9 tdi has the same bearings as 1.6 tdi transmission.

they are noisy in neutral, in gear. :/

I think these used transmissions wont last long.

What do you guys think, did any of you ever got to turn the output shaft on these transmissions? I really doubt that there should be noise.

Also start stop gearboxes have one extra sensor for the shift tower
