Stuck trunk

Post by amer6R »

Hi guys,
I'm having a bit of issue with my rear lid. Came home today to grab some stuff from the trunk, but it didnt want to open... and the car turned hazard light on by it self.

Now i have managed to open it using VCDS and output function to unlock the rear lid ( i have heard the motor sound).
I had to get my timing right for it to unlatch properly all the way. ( pressing start and pulling on the lever).

What is strange i have a trunk open/ unlock button on my key when i press it nothing happens, i cant open it.

So can someone give me feedback and confirm the trunk release ( vw badge) is broken.

Can I run a simple push button ( since its a 2pin connector on the latch) to have a backup?

Can i fit a Golf trunk latch ( the bottom one) as i can easily source these new? (5M0 827 505E) - On mine missing plastic release lever...

The 5M0 827 505E latch (F256), according to spare parts websites, is compatible.🤷‍♂️

As mentioned in many other posts, check the wiring where the corrugated tube on the trunk lid is located.

The E234 switch/release button is a simple switch, but it's also highly compatible or can be made compatible depending on the emblem... Surprise us!!! :)

Image

Due to the forum reports on this issue, I remember double-taping with cloth tape the wiring area of the corrugated tube... so far (13 years) there have been no problems.
I'll have to check it soon because I'm going to remove the old RVC and install a new RVC compatible with my 'precious and wonderful' 😆 Discover Media (spring project).

Good luck/good day/good weekend! ... to everyone without exception.

Ok
today i have checked continuity with multimeter on the lid switch ( two pins) it beeps when i pull the lid. Meaning its ok.

I have checked the wires wherre they flex, again it broke.
Now im pissed i started to pull the harness from the car, and i the process i accidentally pushed on the lid ( closing it ( what a pita) and the rag i placed on the striker was too thin ( it lached)
s**t..
again grabbed vcds plugged back in the harness it foesnt want yo activate
grab m8 xyz bit on a 10 mm wrench unbolt two bolts holding the lock...
Again uncant opeh the lid. Took my fingers, finger the lock and fortunately i felt the manual unlocking spring.
Opend it.

I have removed this piece of brittle goodness and will place new wires where it flexes...
i know I would do the whole but sunday everything is closed...

@ciclo can you post schematic of the brown and black connector
brown has 4 wires ( the 4mm thick ground)
the black one has 5 wires

I recommend that you repair the entire area where the cables flex due to the opening or closing of the trunk lid with new wires instead of making simple splices on the damaged wires.

Although chance has not been on your side so far... hahaha... you overcame the challenge with skill... that is, you now have a new experience.

Thank you ciclo,

I have cut past the flex area and soldered new wires.

I reinstalled the loom in the trunk... I have to reseal the third brake light.

Can someone check on their car if this seal lip tucks under the body

This lip,
I placed the plastic thingy inside the boot then I clipped it into the body of the car.

Also tried bridging the lid switch connector with a paper clip and that didnt work so yea lid switch as it self is 100% ok

Today I have installed a new lock. (6010-01-053449P Blic)
The trunk light instantly turned on since the lock was unlock ( beautiful).

Bad news the trunk unlocking by rear lid doesnt work.
Again used a paper clip, the lock isn't unlocking.

-It unlocks when i hold the remote controll for rear tailgate unlocking.

Tried to paper clip the brown connector GND and corresponding pin - nothing.

Now I assume somehow the loom is broken somewhere bellow the flex point?

What do you guys think?
correct me if im wrong but there is no fuse for rear lid ( its via bcm) Maybe fuse 48, but if its burnt the locking and locking shouldn't work via remote 🤔

Ok guys something strange is happening.

I was driving and i pressed hazzard light to thank the driver for letting me merge, and i couldn't turn them off. I had to remove negative battery terminal, and press the hazzard button. Then it stays off.

Then i unplugged the harness thinking its maybe the issue but no. ( i came home, and pressed it to check same stuf...)

Now im not sure what happening with this car.

Anway, i have bought an used harness it came with antenna amplifier for 20e.

But i really doubt it will fix the hazards lights

Ok guys i have swapped the loom ( guess what the old one got stuck when pulling it out so 1hr battle to remove it.. what a s*it show).

- Boot lid still doesnt work

- Its not possible for me to turn off hazard lights. I have to remove negative battery terminal, put it back on and press the hazard light button.

OK few issues:
-Cant access ABS module, and Steering angle. ( I did a retrofit of steering angle sensor few years ago) - the angle works i can see the wheel angle on my headunit and cornering light work perfectly just cant communicate via diagnostics.

- It seems that i got a DTC for hazard light switch but i cleared the fault codes to soon. - I cant replicate it.

-Boot lid button -not working.

Any ideas whats wrong? The strange this is that boot lid button and hazard lights at the same time..

I have checked the area around bcm is dry.

Which BCM do you have installed? AutoScan?

- The hazard button and trunk lid signal wires are close together in the BCM... this is the only possible relation, the BCM. This may lead one to assume that the BCM is failing or there are faults in the BCM SW.
It could be a coincidence that these two failures occurred at the same time.

- If fuse 48 were blown, the entire central locking system wouldn't work.
- If the trunk inner light now works, then the new latch is working properly.
- Preferably use thin wires instead of paper clips when experimenting, to avoid further damage. Also, paper clips don't always provide conductivity (previously test with a multimeter).
- The lip of the corrugated tube is on the outside of the body, just fit the inner tab of the corrugated tube to the body and that's it.

- Regarding the can-gateway not codded correctly ( i unchecked the radio, since i have that android to try clear the radio code- i reverted it back)... just didnt run the scan. never the less.

The bcm is 6R0 937 087 F ( the one that doesn't have the pins for cruise control).
And the open heater - its unplugged the black thingy...

Ok, so this is my plan of action. When the weather clears a bit.

Remove the BCM 73A pin 23- check continuity towards the back lid button ( will have to run some kind of extensions cord to the back) with multimeter. If it checks out i think then the BCM is starting to fail.

Also when I retrofitted the slip ring (6Q...) i have tapped into can hi and low on the bcm connector. I had hard time getting it back together. So I think i should remove the connection, and tap into somewhere more coinvent for can hi and low signal. - like back of the cluster or obd port.

Now my question is if I do confirm that my bcm is faulty, i have found some used ones.
I like the options of 88 ones (xenons, etc.)
6R0937088B
6R0937088 ( doesn't have a last letter)??
6R0937088F

The question i ask is since these are all priced the same, even the bcm max 7E0 is the same price on my market place. ( i dont have patience for bcm max)

Can I upgrade to 88 one if my BCM turns out bad, do i need to convert any installation for the setup i have now? halogen h4, (my car doesnt have start stop)

This was my boot lid push button/emulator just in case.

https://youtu.be/K3ssyigL7VQ?si=gfDcfuXKb8yhOyYl

conclusion:
1). Tested the part of loom from main loom of lid (right side of the loom - short one) to the boot lid switch ✅
- Checked the ground on connector for lid ✅
2.) Removed the BCM -pin 23 on A connector ( black one) and inserted extension cord to the lid button as seen on image.
- Ran continuity test with multimeter, beep ✅

So my conclusion is that the BCM is damaged, since there is no break in the loom. and our lid button continuity came back as ✅
For the hazard lights, the loom on bcm looked perfectly ok.
BCM it self is dry as a bone, a bit dusty but nothing mayor.
Just to mention i have checked the new(used) loom where it flexes the wires are perfect, a soft. Not brittle as mine. (iichel pointed this out when it broke the first time sings of water) i have traced it then to third brake light seal. Thats also fixed way back then.

Just to add the other day before all of this i washed my headlights from inside, on one headlight I couldn't remove the loom ( ofc it got a bit wet). But it was a sunny day and they were left to dry. There was no condensation. ( That night i drove the car)
And this issue with boot lid and hazards was night after that.
So coincidence or not im not sure, i had no warning lights.

Yes i tried all of testing with headlights plugged in and not plugged in made no difference.

-I see it for the first time. It cleared. I checked every single one fuse with multimeter all ✅

so bcm faulty, we will see. I heat shrunk canbus hi & low where i tapped into. Im not sure if a new bcm will sort out the abs communication problem. Anyway I have bought a downpipe, and plan to mount it soon so I will have room to fit abs 9.0 pump. I'd just like to restore comunication because i have no idea how i'm going to bleed the abs system. Can i run directly can hi and low from hex device into the pump?

If you could help me choose a new bcm I would appreciate it. max options with no re-pinning neaded
🤞it fixes the issue

At first glance at your latest posts:

-Any special reason for having BCM Byte7 Bit6 enabled?
Image
Disable it (Byte7 00Hex 00000000binary) and perform the appropriate checks.

Of lesser importance regarding central locking, the same goes for Byte0 Bit6. I didn't see any other 6Rs having this bit enabled.🤷‍♂️

The best HIGH 087 BCMs (NOT MAX), meaning they don't require additional wiring, are the ones manufactured for the Polo 6R in Russia and India. They support some of the latest equipment for the 6R family. I'll tell you the references later.
The BCMs 088 (Re4) require an external gateway. They're not suitable for you. They're for 6R Bluemotion until May 2012 (first generation 6R Bluemotion). It's not a good idea, a BCM Max 7E0 would be better than a 6R0... 088 (in case you want to adapt wiring).

I have no idea, probably the previous owner enabled it since the car had cobra alarm. There is a lock cylinder present on the car (on both sides).

I dont know how you loaded the coding into LHelper to see the descriptions like you are connected to the car... (what is the name of lbl file)Not sure from top of my head what on the byte 0 bit 6.

So then the simplest option for me is to stick to 87 version BCM and ofc. not the F version hahaha
All i know I'd like to be able to retrofit CCS
I think that currently i dont have the needed patience to follow thru with bcm max. (I've seen your pdf file regarding the install)
