Coroplast wiring tape

Hello all !

As I'm changing my headliner, I met an issue with my wiring harness over the driver/passenger side as the wiring tape holding it to the support fell off due to time, heat and aging.

I ordered two official coroplast from VW:

Par number: 000979950

It's 9mm widht like the original one from factory.

My first repair 2 years ago:

Looks way more OEM like the lower part of the wiring going down to the dashboard/lower part of "A" pillar

But I have some issue with the upper supports:

As factory, a piece of wiring tape was put over/around the harness, go over/under the support (depending of support's type) and that's all.
Here, even with gloves to avoid glue contamination some wiring tape start to peel off.

So I'm quite frustrated and running against time because in two day, I have to install back the headlliner and I will no longer access to them.

The main solution will be to put on straps but I would prefer OEM look (even I will no longer see this location )

The issue is, by using factory technic to hold the wiring to the support, the tape does not stick to it self.

Glue side to glue side: ok.

But Glue side to felt side, it's totaly random.
Some are peeling off and some other don't

Thank you for explaining. Did you try looping it twice? (fresh tape over fresh tape)?

Yup it's what I did on the side support (the one where the wiring is passing over the support).

For the other I managed to put the end of the wiring tape on the top side so like that the support clip pressure could hold the wiring tape even if the end is peeling off.

That's really strange. I had two rolls of coroplast (smooth) one tape and never had any issues. The glue was strong.
Tesa one like yours in pictures had a bit of less stronger glue (compared to coroplast) but i never had issues of it peeling from those cable hangers.

Tesa tape is a bit thinner than coroplast from my expirience.

Maybe try leaving the tap in the sun for 5 minutes.

I understand you want tape insted of zip ties. like oem but its not holding.

All my wiring tape are coming from Coroplast.
On the web for TESA it's mainly fake one.

I drove the car just know and notices that the first wiring tape I've applied are holding better than the last one.

The tape was stored at my house at 20-24 degrees but outside it was 32 and even more in the car. So maybe it's better to applied when cold and by the time the glue has time to cure.

By the past I tried to heat the glue but it was not working

Funny thing is, I bought 2 years ago the Tesa 51608 9mm and I never used it yet
It was in it's original package. So I will give him a try

EDIT: I replace hafl of the wire tape holding the harness to the support with the Tesa tape and the results seems to be better.
