Oil warning light problem

Hey folks..

I have a 2007 1.2 Petrol BMD engine which has a brief orange oil light flashing on startup , maybe flashes 3 times then goes off…

Topdon scan shows error 00562:030 which refers to oil level thermal sensor G266, static open / short circuit ..

Problem is I don’t have a g266 sump pan sensor , nor do I have side level sensor in the case on timing chain.

I have changed oil pressure sensor in head ..

Still light flashes ..

I’ve not taken off the bonnet switch but it scanned on and off ok with top don..

Was planning an oil and filter change next , but I’m thrown by the sensor scan .. (oil level is fine btw)

So primarily my question is - why does it scan a sensor issue if sensor doesn’t exist ?
And ultimately how do I fix this ?

Could it indeed be a low oil pressure issue at startup (maybe oil or filter related) and the only signal the Topdon receives is the g266 reference…

Final note : Topdon outputs “ok” (think it’s only a on/off signal on these sensors rather than an actual value but I stand corrected) for oil pressure when live scanning but during this time the light isn’t on anyway so I guess it would say “ok”…

Sorry for the ramble but as I type this I think I’ve convinced myself it is indeed a low oil pressure at startup ??

Anyway - anyone experienced this mix of issues ?

Update -

Changed oil and filter last night ..
Still orange flashing this morning …

3 flashes then goes out and doesn’t reappear on journey …

The bonnet latch scanned ok the other day but I’m going to strip and clean anyway .. just in case …

There is a 2005 1.2 Petrol BMD engine in my family from new and it has a oil level monitor because the level did go quite low once and it illuminated yellow, cant remember if it was the same oil can symbol shown in the instrument panel, below but the maual shows a YELLOW underlined oil can symbol, for low level, I would think that if its not RED then you don't have a pressure problem, also, if the oil pressure is really low then its inhibited until the engine revs reach smething like 1600/2000 RPM, a feature of all the VWs that I've owned since 2005.You can probably check it by pulling off the wiring harness from the pressure switch, start the car and increase the revs until the warning light illuminates.

Actually yes I totally agree with what you’re saying - I think I’ve gone off on a pressure tangent when as you say orange light is indeed level.

I guess this still leaves me confused ..
My level is spot on but more importantly I don’t have a level sensor at all on this engine - so where would this signal be coming from ?

Is this the natural behaviour for a Bmd engine “without level sensors “ ?

I will check it out when I next see that Polo, the attachments are from its hand book but its possible I'm mixing up the alarm from a year 2000 Bora that has only departed the scene recently.

Couldn't see anything like a level sensor so must have been the Bora but I was fairly sure it was on this Polo, I'll be changing the oil/filter at the end of the year so will check for any warning light when oil is removed.

Polo 9N3 has a level sensor for sure!
