In Brazil the Polo leaves the assembly line with 1.6- and 2-litre engines with 74kW (101bhp) and 85kW (115bhp). There are 4 trim levels, Basic, Comfortline, Sportline and Highline. There was also a limited edition 'Next' model.
The 1.6 is VW's new 'RSH' engine which replaced the alloy 'SR' unit in 2001 Golfs and now it's used in the Polo too. Despite the cast iron block it's some 20kg lighter than the older 'SR' unit. The RSH is a low-friction engine, mounting roller finger camshafts ('RSH' in German). It's probably the same engine SA Polos have.
