Radio to lower din slot?

Post by Harald73 »

Hi,

is there a reason why I could not change my car radio to the lower din slot in the dashboard? Is the slot deep enough etc? I have the Sony CDX-M8800.

I ordered the the double cup holder and I think it would fit/look better in the upper slot.

I don't think there is a reason you cannot do this :)

Thanks

Mine is in the lower slot. In fact the lower slot has more space tan the upper one. My radio in the top slot was kind of tight and stick out a little bit and in the down one is a perfect fit! =)

It´s actually good to know so when I get around to installing the cup holder, I will truly consider the possibility of moving the radio to the lower slot.

I didn´t install the radio myself, I had it done at the dealer so that´s why I´m asking this.

How about the cup holder? Is it only for the looks or is it really worth something? A friend of mine has a similar one in his Audi and I think the plastic is somehow of a poor quality. Not sure but anyway...

I considered installing the radio in the lower DIN but decided against it.

My reason of thinking was, if your head unit was in the lower DIN and you went over a bump with drinks in the cup holders they could spill all over your radio.

(I have already soaked the heating dials and centre console a few times  .)

I allready tought in that but as I rarelly use the cupholder and when I used it i'm most of the times parked. But you can spill the drinks even with the radio in the upper slot. It's just a mather of luck or in this cas bad luck :P

So is the cup holder really that bad? I guess one shouldn´t keep drinks in the car without a closed mug, bottle or something like that.

Maybe the cup holder is only for looks then? I don´t mind. Never seen one here in Finland so at least my centre console will look different.

I use my cup holder sometimes. I basically drive at night so drinks aren't that much need it in my car but when I go to McDonalds or something like that I use it! :P

I swapped mine over and the radio fits much better. As i still have the cubby slot, with the radio in the upper slot it was bending the cubby ever so slightly but it really bugged so me i swapped them and it works much better.

So I swapped my radio to the lower slot and the only problem came with the double cup holder?? It doesn´t fit into the upper slot because the upper side of the slot is totally flat. How is that possible, it was supposed to be "universal" or something like that? Guess I should´ve checked that beforehand.

It could have been possible to install it to the lower slot but I wanted my radio there so I didn´t install it at all, damn! Waste of money anyway. And I had to but the original cuppy upsidedown to get it fit??

Does anybody know where you can get an original cubby slot? i.e. the twin cup holder fitting without the cupholders. all i want is the shelf thing.
