How to safely remove a badge and re-use it??

I would like to safely remove the "1.6" badge on my Polo and re-use it - I simply want to move it roughly 10mm to the left.

This is what it looks like now:

Reason: I would like my car to look a lil' different from the other Polos running around, subtle differences, yet not make it out to be something that it's not. I'd probably sacrifice a 'TDI' badge in the process...as I only need the red "I".

Hope there's someone out there that can help.

I also wanted to have something other polo´s dident have... so I made som fun with my car.. Normaly its a 100 TDI, but it has a chip box and now have 130. So I put on a all red TDI sign.. look like this

Boil up a kettle of water, and let it cool a little.. (boiling water will probably damage your paint) and poor it over the badge. This will soften the glue a treat. Then with a plastic bike tyre lever, or a plastic spoon (or something that won't scratch the paint) carefully lever the badge off.

Once off clean all the old glue off. I normally use double sided rear view mirror sticky pads to re-glue badges on. Stick it over the badge, then with a sharp stanley knife trim the pads to the shape of the letters.

Unpeel the other sticky side and stick the badge to the new position!

Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

I have had soooooo many different badges on the back of my golf, andf this method has worked for me every time!

For what you'll pay for double sided tape (which may be too thick for as they are small badges anyway) you may as well pay £3.50 for a new one.

I removed my SDI badge from the back and the best way I found to do this is by using a hair dryer! Get your hair dryer and put it on full hot power and blast the air over the badge. This is to soften the sticky part! Do this until your hair dryer cuts out (which is ok). Then use a small screw drive or knife and slowly try and peel it off. Just watch the paint. A good tip is wrap you knife in a towel so that its not directly onto the paint. Your badge should come off nicely but try and not butcher it because you need to stick it back down!

Oh another good tip before you start get some masking tape and mark out where the badge is then peel it off because if you dont mark where is was then am sure you will put it on squint. There is a small curve on the back and if you look close the badge doesnt sit straight in the first place!
